At Avadel, we are committed to connecting the dots between sleep disorder care and the patient experience. With that, we are proud to sponsor the Narcolepsy Network Patient Experience and Program Study. While we’ve made tremendous progress in recent years, there is still a lot of work to be done as a medical community. This survey is intended to better understand what is working well for people with narcolepsy and where there are gaps in care that need to be addressed. As reported by various sources below, these healthcare professionals employ a comprehensive approach to screening patients for red flags during initial evaluations and ongoing treatment. This process involves taking detailed patient histories, conducting thorough physical examinations, asking targeted questions about specific symptoms, and using clinical judgment to recognize when a patient's presentation may warrant further medical investigation or referral to a physician. Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eUDav8tK Please add your thoughts below. From March's Ocular ONdrugDelivery issue, read this fascinating Early Insight from Philippe Daull and Pierre Roy of Akrivision, 👉 https://bit.ly/3IK9RFX "Accurate Delivery and Precise Dosing of Eye Drops: What if We Change the Instillation Procedure?" The authors introduce a truly novel multi-dose eye bottle that is used in an upright position – allowing the patient to keep their head straight in a comfortable manner. The innovative device does not require patients to raise their arm and allows them to see and control what they are doing. The authors discuss how changing the administration procedure for eye drops in this way can improve the patient experience and eliminate health risks.

"We all have bias. It's as natural as breathing. [...] It's very important for you to recognize those bias and not let them interfere with patient care" There are significant disparities from clinician to clinician in how pain management is handled, and recent studies show that race, gender, and socioeconomic status play a major role. Disparities like these are dangerous and have a profound impact on patient outcomes and overall quality of care. Learn more about addressing bias in prehospital pain management from Kim D. 🧠 Spotting Early Signs of Dementia Through Walking Patterns 🧠🚶♂️ A new study reveals that difficulties in walking curved paths could be an early indicator of cognitive decline. Unlike walking in a straight line, navigating curves demands more complex coordination and motor skills, which can challenge those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Researchers suggest incorporating simple curved walking tests into routine assessments could significantly enhance early diagnosis and intervention opportunities for dementia. 🔄 This non-invasive and cost-effective method could soon be accessible through everyday technology like smartphone cameras, making preliminary assessments possible in the comfort of your home. Understanding these subtle signs can lead to earlier support and treatment, potentially slowing the progression of dementia. Let's walk this path together in raising awareness and supporting early detection! 🧡 #DementiaAwareness #CognitiveHealth #EarlyDetection #MentalHealth #TPCTN Trouble Walking a Curved Path Could Be an Early Sign of Mild Cognitive Impairment (everydayhealth.com)

My last post received a lot of attention & exposed some significant cognitive bias to try & deflect from what it was really about. People were jumping to defend the room while ignoring what the room was being used for. It was really about the bolt-to-the-floor bed (Norix ATN120 or similar) designed for high-risk areas relating to 'behavioural health'. This bed is NOT suitable for diagnosis & treatment. It is too low (15 inches tall) & inaccessible from all sides. Using it in an ER is DANGEROUS to both the patient and staff. Yet that is what it is being used for. If you missed (or tried to deflect from) that one key fact, time to take a long hard look at yourself. Imagine you are a disabled or geriatric patient (with difficulty transferring). Imagine you needed bloodwork and an IV (access to two arms). Imagine you need a full examination. Is that happening with a nurse or doctor on their knees? Original post: https://lnkd.in/gUk63pvK
