But internalized or not, the result is yet another painful form of double-standards for Black women leaders. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 💖 Commit to not undermining Black women’s leadership. This point is also reflected in 𝘿𝙧. 𝘿𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙨𝙨’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙛𝙪𝙡 2020 𝙉𝙋𝙌 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙡𝙚, “𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙉𝙤𝙣𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧.” 💖Commit to examining ways in which you have internalized biases about Black women leaders and dig deep to understand the source of those beliefs and ways in which you continue to be socialized around them. These might include caste systems, White supremacy ideology, homophobia, nationalism, and misogynistic norms that influence how you specifically view and interact with Black women. 💖Commit to building your skill in calling IN rather than calling OUT Black women leaders when you feel slighted or offended. 𝗗𝗿. 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗮 𝗝. 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝘀’ 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 is a must for anyone who seeks to “𝙖𝙙𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙢 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝, 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜.” With these three commitments, building and strengthening a community of care and solidarity with Black women leaders could be possible. Responsibility to not only lead, but elevate By Andre Arbelaez On behalf of the HC3-Hispanic C-Suite Corporate Council , I congratulate every man and woman on the Latino Leaders Magazine list to acknowledge the incredible accomplishment as leaders, not only in their company, not only in their industry, but as leaders in Corporate America. We are leaders that happen to be of Hispanic Heritage. It is our professional and social responsibility to not only lead, but create a pathway for others in our companies, our organizations, and our community.  That objective should be clear to every executive on the list as we celebrate them, we must also be accountable as it eventually leads a pathway for our children, our legacy, our future. The Hispanic C-Suite Corporate Council (HC3) is the premier organization for Hispanic Leaders in Corporate America. Our mission via the Push Up Pull Up theme is to increase the number of successful Hispanic executives by delivering value to their development, leadership, and philanthropic endeavors thereby strengthening their companies, organizations, and communities.  Our mantra “Advocacy, Accountability, Appreciation” will help elevate executives, ensure they value their identity, and recognize their greatness. As of 2023, the Hispanic community has 20 Fortune 500 Hispanic CEO’s, and our goal is to assist in the elevation of the total to match our national population percentage, which is now at a targeted 100 CEO’s. A US Federal Court of Appeals panel has suspended the Fearless Fund’s Striver Program for Black women entrepreneurs, which awarded $20k grants to correct historical injustices. Despite less than 0.05% (ONE HALF OF ONE PERCENT!!!) of Venture Capital investment going to businesses founded by Black women, the court ruled the program discriminatory against white business owners. The irony is stark. The laws used against the Fearless Fund were meant to prevent economic inequity for formerly enslaved African Americans. In your organization, how are you addressing the barriers creating inequity for your employees, clients, or community? Have you considered how your policies, practices, and budget choices can foster equity or perpetuate inequity?
