Speaker | Coach | Founder of The Whole-Self Method | Helping women unlock their vitality and harness their emotions to become unstoppable
In recent weeks, we've seen many stories and news relating to women in the workplace, from the pay gap data released by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, to celebrations of women on International Women's Day. These stories remind us of the role women now play in the workplace, and the battles we're still fighting to achieve true equality at work. But I'd suggest they also highlight the differences between men and women - and why we need women to lead as themselves, rather than trying to emulate the way men lead. This suggestion can bring up emotions for many of us as this battle of gender equality is something that we saw generations before us fight in different ways. These generational wounds areimprinted in our bodies and nervous systems as women trying to get that recognition by being like men in our careers. We can't deny that biologically men and women are different. Our workplaces were originally designed with men in mind, and they don't take into account the different kinds of people who are now part of our workforce. The reason so many women feel overwhelmed and burnt out is that they're trying to succeed in systems that weren't built for them to thrive. But the good news is, I know when women adopt an embodied leadership approach and lead with their whole selves and feminine power, they can tap into their natural strength as a leader, vitality and energy. Amidst all the publicity around Boots' decision to remove its hybrid working policy, which allowed employees to work from home up to 2 days a week, I found this Grant Thornton report rather interesting: https://lnkd.in/e9F8-A_b The report notes that: - "50% of businesses with a male CEO are predominantly office-based, compared to 40% of female led businesses." and - "Businesses in which workers are primarily office-based are the only ones where the percentage of women in senior management roles drops below the global benchmark." It's no surprise to me that hybrid working can have a concrete impact on gender equality in the workplace, but interesting to see these statistics. The wider report is also worth a read too. In light of the impending publication of employer gender pay gaps by Workplace Gender Equality Agency, I recently connected with WORK180 to better understand their purpose, client and member value proposition. WORK180 exist to provide women and marginalised groups access to information they need to make informed career decisions, which includes identifying employers of choice. One of their most recent publications, ‘What Women Want 2024’, has too many takeaways to mention in this post, however if you are a DEI practitioner or leader of an organisation looking to take small steps towards realising the benefits of a diverse workforce, then this report is a must read. In the spirit of advancing genuine diversity and inclusivity in the workplace, it’s crucial for organizations to reflect on their practices not just during significant moments or days but throughout the entire year. It’s time for businesses to critically assess whether they are truly supporting and elevating women within their ranks. This includes evaluating their efforts in hiring a diverse workforce, ensuring equitable pay, actively listening to women’s voices, providing substantial opportunities for leadership, and sincerely valuing their contributions and ideas. As we approach International Women’s Day, it’s an opportune moment for reflection rather than mere performative action. Rather than limiting recognition to a single day with symbolic gestures, let’s encourage a culture of continuous action and meaningful change. Genuine empowerment and inclusion go beyond the occasional panel discussion or social media post; they are demonstrated through everyday practices and policies that champion gender equality and women’s rights. Let’s use this time not only to celebrate achievements but also to commit to concrete actions that foster a truly inclusive workplace. This includes creating more opportunities for women to lead, ensuring their voices are heard and acted upon, and recognizing their invaluable contributions all year round. Remember, authenticity in our actions speaks louder than any hashtag or temporary spotlight. If we strive for a world where equality is not just discussed but lived, it starts with the commitments we make and the actions we take today. #womensday #workculture #womanpower

As an employer who values gender equality, I make it a point to provide equal opportunities for everyone. Supporting women in the workplace is something I’m passionate about, but I’ve been reflecting on a challenge I’ve encountered and I’d love to hear your thoughts. In any business, deadlines matter. Occasionally, urgent deadlines require us to put in an extra 30-40 minutes or may be an hour. While I understand that many women take on more family duties, hearing reasons like "I need to cook" or "My husband expects me home" makes me question: What about fairness? Men, too, have families, but they find a way to meet the demands of the job. Shouldn't recognition be based on commitment and effort? It’s not about working late every day—just when it’s truly needed. We all have responsibilities, but in the end, commitment and flexibility are key to professional growth. I want to continue supporting equal opportunities, but as employers, how do we strike a balance between respecting personal lives and ensuring that the work gets done? What do you think? How can we create a fair, ambitious, and supportive work environment for everyone? #GenderEquality #WorkplaceCulture #Leadership #Ambition #Balance #CareerGrowth #EmployerPerspective #Commitment #WorkLifeBalance #ProfessionalDevelopment #Fairness
