We desperately need more funding for in-home pediatric and adult shift nursing in Pennsylvania’s budget this year. More than 10,000 children and adults across PA with medically complex conditions are eligible to receive these services, often requiring ventilator or tracheostomy care. However, low Medicaid reimbursement rates are making it increasingly difficult to hire and retain nurses and aides necessary to provide this life saving care. Mathew joined the Aveanna family in 2013. When Nurse Melodi started caring for him a year later, the two became best friends. Over the years, Nurse Melodi has supported Mathew through every challenge, providing a nurturing and compassionate presence during the highs and lows. They have worked through severe oral aversions and many sensory issues, but that hasn't stopped Mathew from reaching new heights as he grows older. As he begins 7th grade with Nurse Melodi by his side, Mathew is now a straight-A student! We love seeing how far Mathew has come with Nurse Melodi by his side.
