Lila MacLellan, Senior Writer at Fortune wrote a thorough analysis (Sept., 2024) of anti-woke activist Robby Starbuck's efforts in his campaign against corporate DEI programs. Here are the top 15 takeaways from the article: 1. Robby Starbuck, a 35-year-old conservative activist, is campaigning against DEI programs in major companies. 2. He targets companies he believes are frequented by conservative consumers, arguing they shouldn't spend money on "left-wing causes." 3. Starbuck has successfully influenced several large companies to modify or reduce their DEI initiatives. 4. Companies like John Deere, Tractor Supply, Ford, Lowe's, Harley Davidson, Molson Coors, and Brown-Forman have made changes to their DEI policies (note: these changes vary and some only include dropping participation in the HRC's Corporate Equality Index that measures inclusion of LGBTQ+ individuals). 5. Starbuck's background is in the entertainment industry, where he directed music videos before transitioning to political activism. 6. He uses social media, particularly video posts, to criticize company DEI policies and training materials. 7. Starbuck argues for workplace "neutrality" and against discussing social issues or politics at work. 8. Some DEI advocates argue that Starbuck's influence is grossly overstated, suggesting targeted companies (believed to be frequented by conservative consumers) weren't strongly committed to inclusion in the first place. 9. Companies have cited various reasons for changing policies, including evolving legal environments and long-term planning. 10. Some organizations, like As You Sow and the New York State Comptroller, are pushing back against the rollback of DEI initiatives. 11. The Human Rights Campaign is mobilizing public support for inclusive corporate policies. 12. DEI experts suggest that companies with strong, well-researched programs are less likely to be swayed by such campaigns. 13. Surveys indicate that the majority of Americans and companies still support DEI programs. 14. Starbuck claims to have thousands of "whistleblowers" reporting DEI policies they dislike. 15. The article highlights the ongoing debate about the role of DEI in corporate America and the pushback against such initiatives. #DEI #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #ChangeManagement #AntiWoke

No Room For Dissent From The Dissent https://lnkd.in/gMd8gssX <a href=""> - Pamela Paul writes about why she’s not eager on becoming a member of protests. It’s not that she doesn’t like the outside, or has bladder points. It’s that they appear form of ineffective, on the one hand, and illiberal, on the opposite. Illiberal? Attempt being the skunk on the backyard celebration. I’ve by no means been a lot of a tribalist or a joiner, and don’t have any use for conformity of thought or costume. Until it’s Halloween or a dressing up celebration, I don’t like taking part in dress-up. Nor do I wish to be a part of a bunch the place individuals would possibly assume I unintentionally left my pussy hat at residence. Once I see a bunch of white children sporting kaffiyehs I can’t assist surprise no matter occurred to the entire anti-cultural appropriation factor. When somebody drones on about “solidarity,” all I hear is, “Get in line.” When there’s no room for dissent from the dissent, there’s no room for me. Coloration me an anti-fan of performative politics, significantly if it means I’d be a part of the present that options bigots posing as bleeding hearts. I keep in mind a number of years again some child lawyers had been discussing me amongst themselves (which was bizarre sufficient), one in every of whom thought I ought to know what they needed to say. They dismissed me as a “contrarian,” having spent years highlighting police misconduct and racial bias, and but refusing to embrace identitarian ideology, anti-racism or the abolition motion. I used to be an inspiration to some again when, but right here I used to be refusing to march alongside them. They joined a tribe. I didn’t. They adopted a simplistic ideological grasp of the world. I didn’t. They wished to be part of a motion. I didn’t. I’m very a lot a feminist (second, not third wave), and but I by no means thought of knitting a pussy hat. ACANB, though any cop might be at any time and, too usually, are simply as inclined to presume the worst of a black man as they’re to save lots of a kitten in a tree. However solely children consider that the world breaks down into good and evil, they usually know which is which as a result of their tribe tells them. I’m a realist. A pragmatist. I wish to save a black man from being crushed or killed reasonably than have interaction in a performative march in favor of poorly conceived and unsustainable fixes which are simply as prone to trigger hurt as forestall it. Expertise has taught me that when the pendulum swings too far a technique, it’s going to quickly swing again, too far the opposite. Grand options that come on the expense of grand issues are senseless palliatives. Certain, we grossly overincarcerate. No, being the sufferer of crime isn’t a straightforward tradeoff. Each side are worthy of our concern, and any answer that “saves” one on the expense of the opposite is doom...

Recent events have inspired me to reshare the dominant finding from my 2022 doctoral study, Exploring the Career Advancement Experience of Black Women Leaders on Their Journeys to Executive Levels in Large American Corporations (Viscione, 2022). The study explored the events the Black women leaders identified as most impactful on their career journey to executive levels. All the participants had a minimum of 15 years of leadership experience. The study found that the most impactful career advancement experience reported by all participants was the experience of being the first and, or the only in an organization level, type of work, team or work group, and, or geography. The Black women leader participants characterized the most impactful career advancement experience as being the first and, or only, by the thematic descriptors below. ·Having her qualifications and, or credibility questioned ·Feeling isolated, invisible, and unwelcomed ·Being keenly aware that she is different from the others ·Feeling unsupported at work ·Experiencing racism and sexism ·Looking up and over and not seeing people that look like her ·Experiencing a multitude of feelings, positive, neutral, and negative I share this information for other first and, or only leaders to know they are not alone and for those who support, mentor, and or advocate for them. The complete dissertation is available on Google Scholar (search by author name and title) or @ https://lnkd.in/gKBDuete
