Great article by SSGT Janes on his observations based on a recent exercice he was on. Gives solid lessons learned, how to overcome them, what the institution needs to address in DOTMLPF and “Culture”, and well referenced with previous works. Bravo Zulu SSGT Janes!
Excellent short read. I LOVE thought leadership out of the enlisted ranks. His understanding of “organic” or self-organizing unit structures as well as finding and killing aviation and sensor related capabilities to maintain a tactical edge is noteworthy.

#Dronesforgood !!! Creating new rewarding jobs for veterans is a primary objective of the Presidio Federal's Drone & Data as a Service Team. Better, Faster, Safer, and lower O&M AND we get to create jobs for our service disabled veterans C'mon Man - this is what makes IT great!!! #GoTeam “The U.S. Department of Interior "Drones for Good" program started in 2006. Program data showed drones could reduce task time by 86% (1/7th) and lower the cost by 90% (1/10th). The data collected from the program was 3-4 times more valuable because it was more precise and could easily be shared and repurposed.” -- Mark Bathrick, Bathrick Aviation, former head of aviation, U.S. Department of Interior, and PGS's Drone & Data as a Service Team SME Lead
We are thrilled to share the inspiring story of Vets to Drones with you. It all began when our founder, Lewis, started flying in the California fire and wild fire mitigation program. Through his own experiences and interactions with fellow veterans, he realized the immense potential for veterans to apply their military skills to civilian jobs. Driven by this vision, Vets to Drones was born. Our mission is to empower veterans by providing free resources and training to enter the commercial drone industry. Collaborating with industry experts, natural disaster response agencies, NGOs, and veteran-founded businesses, we are building a strong network of support for veterans nationwide. If you'd like to learn more about our organization and our journey, check out the link in the comments. Join us in this incredible journey as we help veterans find a new route forward! 💪 #VetstoDrones #Veterans #Philanthropy

In creating the AH-1Z Viper platform, Bell Flight has been pivotal for advancing military aviation technology worldwide. Today, the AH-1Z Viper is the newest attack helicopter on the market, designed to provide an overwhelming competitive advantage to its users across a broad range of missions. More than an evolutionary upgrade, the Viper is a re-designed dedicated attack helicopter for modern threats. Bell designed the Viper to counter both air-to-air and air-to-ground targets while simultaneously operating in the world's most austere environments. The AH-1Z has demonstrated its ability to counter unmanned aerial systems, a vital capability in today’s operating environments. The Viper is the only attack helicopter required to operate from naval vessels and small land-based forward-operating units regularly. Marinisation of the Viper during the manufacturing process protects the aircraft from saltwater's corrosive effects and enables it to withstand the harsh environmental impact of deployments in all-weather environments. 🔺 Sideways Landings In A #storm Are Not EASY! 💥 This pilot successfully performed a sideways landing with insane crosswinds! Hats Off 💥 Storm Pia wreaked havoc, causing widespread disruption to air travel at several airports, with gusts reaching up to 40-50 mph. Yet, it wasn't an issue for these brave Finnair pilots who perfectly landed at Manchester Airport. Airplanes land sideways in high winds using a technique called crabbing. Crabbing is a common technique used during crosswind landings. By pointing the aircraft's nose into the wind, you can counteract the drift caused by crosswinds. To crab, the pilot uses the rudder to point the nose of the aeroplane into the wind. The pilot then uses the ailerons to keep the wings level. This creates a sideways angle, or crab angle, between the aeroplane's heading and its direction of travel. As the aeroplane approaches the runway, the pilot maintains the crab angle until touchdown. Just before touchdown, the pilot uses the rudder to straighten the aeroplane out so that it is aligned with the runway. The aeroplane then touches down in a crabbed position, with the upwind wheel touching down first. This pilot successfully performed a sideways landing with insane crosswinds. Hats Off 💥 #aviation #defense #defence #military #technology #weather #extremeweather

Mountain Majesties: The Aerial Artistry of Rescue Pilots 🏔️🚁💪 When the ruggedness of mountain slopes meets the distress calls of stranded souls, there arises a unique breed of heroes – the daring rescue pilots. Navigating the thin air, unpredictable terrains, and gravity-defying angles, these pilots exemplify skill, courage, and precision at its peak. Highlights: 1️⃣ Steering Through Challenges: While the mountains offer breathtaking vistas, they're also fraught with gusty winds, shifting weather, and treacherous landing spots. Rescue pilots navigate these elements with an astute sense of judgment. 2️⃣ Precision Landings: The difference between safety and catastrophe can be a matter of inches. Pilots, whether from the #usarmy, #airforce, or civilian units, master the art of hovering and landing in tight spots, often with only partial skid contact. 3️⃣ Clock Against Time: In high altitudes, every second counts. With a cocktail of skill, tech, and sheer will, pilots ensure timely rescues, often amidst dwindling daylight or dropping temperatures. Behind-the-scenes: 🔍 Training & Tenacity: Like the #navy in tumultuous seas or #cybersecurity experts in the virtual maze, rescue pilots undergo rigorous training, simulations, and real-life drills to perfect their craft. 🔍 Camaraderie & Trust: These missions aren't solo endeavors. They bank heavily on the trust between the pilot, co-pilot, and the rescue crew, forming an unbreakable bond. As we aim for the skies in our ambitions, #careers, and dreams, let's tip our hats to these airborne guardians. Their unwavering commitment, despite the odds, serves as a beacon of hope and a testament to human resilience and skill. #usmarines #usmc #uscg #coastguard #pilot #veterans #airlineindustry #informationsecurity #technology #future #socialmedia #strategy #leadership #inspiration #success 🏔️🚁💪
