😀 I enjoyed attending the NextGen Career Webinar and listening to the insightful speakers . A big thanks to Joshua C. for raising important questions about bettering student efforts and impact. Key discussions included how to draft a clear CV, build a strong LinkedIn profile, discover your interests, and stay informed—everything that brings confidence! Networking as a student can be challenging, especially if you're an introvert. But stepping out of your comfort zone is a great transition to build confidence. My takeaways for managing those nervous jitters? Preparation, engaging with others, and always smiling bright! 🌟 #NextGenNetwork #WebinarTakeaways #Networking #ConfidenceBuilding

So the spoiled brat undocked and is returning in disgrace; stranding its crew on the ISS until SpaceX brings them home on Crew Dragon 'Freedom' next Feb. I ridiculed Starliner to the faces of its engineers at a UArizona career fair years ago, and I despise it more today. Speaking of Crew Dragon: they are 12/12 on successful crewed round trips; with 'Endeavor' currently docked to the ISS, and three more trips in as many capsules planned for this year (including Crew-9 departing later this month aboard the aforementioned 'Freedom'). However don't cry for Starliner and Boeing, my fellow American LI users: our tax dollars will continue to be *endlessly* sunk into making it work (I'm not exaggerating, BTW: go research how Starliner is being financed). And at least Boeing does excellently by comparison with its DEI and ESG initiatives... at least until Robby Starbuck pays his visit. 😎 #marsManGood

🔴 "I don't have a parachute of any colour" 👍 For some reading this phrase this may bring back memories for veterans who may have been discussing their extracurricular activities away from the job that they loved. Do you still own a parachute? Since leaving, do you still jump? But for many others this brings reference to the book "What colour is your parachute?" by Richard N Bolles. The book starts with finding hope. "If you are to hold on to Hope you must determine to always have at least two alternatives, in everything you are doing while looking for work" This is a reminder for all the service leavers or veterans who are looking for a career change to remind themselves of your COA's (Course of Actions). You never plan for a single COA whilst serving in the most elite units in the world, so don't plan a single COA on your career. Use multiple methods to search for a job, don't just rely on a network! Upskill and educate where and when possible and include courses, even if you think it may not be relevant. If you have the time then invest in yourself! What colour is your parachute is not just about job hunting, it's about life planning or for better words life designing. Have a read, and make sure you are planning your next move well. Executive Producer and Show Host of WHAT'S YOUR WORK FIT? I help you make your work and workplace decisions result in better and more satisfying professional experiences and outcomes.
Would you accept an offer to work at a company that has several major [brand reputational] crises boiling simultaneously? Overnight, I dreamt that I was at a busy career fair where I spotted recruiters at the Boeing table; they were seated with no one but themselves to talk to, their eyes gazing at their mobile devices. It's got to be a difficult mission to try to recruit knowledge workers from other companies to join your brand when during the past 12 months: 🔻 Your company got savaged in the news after a door plug fell off of one of your aircraft in mid-flight. (Luckily, no one aboard the aircraft was seriously hurt.) 🔻 Orders for your newest model narrow-body aircraft, the 737 MAX series, remain well below forecast 🔻 Your company's share price has, year-to-date, dropped 25 percent in value, and 🔻 Many consumers remain afraid to fly your 737 MAX aircraft. FULL STOP. And that's just what is roiling the brand's commercial aircraft division. Over at the aerospace division, Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, sent into orbit this past spring with two NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronauts on board for a short mission, remains in space because the craft's propulsion system stopped working properly. Today,The Washington Post reports that the astronauts onboard the Starliner may not return to earth until February 2025. Oooof! Now, knowing all that would you willingly seek work at a company suffering that high level of turmoil? Interestingly enough, many knowledge workers would jump at the chance to work at Boeing. Companies in distress need brave talent willing to look beyond the bad headlines and reputational damage to get them to stability, reliability, market favorability, and good public relations. Indeed, many career professionals are motivated, jazzed if you will, by the opportunity to overcome difficult workplace challenges such as these. It's how they roll. Boeing's bad days won't last forever. And that is because new talent in their ranks will reimagine the brand and its operations to create products that the public--and NASA--can trust. And when that happens, our best days lie ahead. 😁 I’m Dan Smolen. As host and executive producer of WHAT'S YOUR WORK FIT? I help you make your work and workplace decisions result in better and more satisfying professional experiences and outcomes. Last week was a special one at Cirrus Selection - We managed to help secure a candidate's dream role. The journey wasn't simple, but here's how we guided them to success: Understanding the Dream: We kicked off with an in-depth chat about their aspirations, skills, and what makes them tick professionally. They had a crystal-clear vision of their ideal position, and this helped me understand what would get them excited. Tailored Search: By utilising our extensive network within the defence and aerospace sectors, we pinpointed roles that aligned perfectly with their requirements. Preparation is Key: Armed with insights and industry know-how, we prepped them for interviews, ensuring confidence met capability. No stone was left unturned and through the support and follow up calls we had, they were able to smash the interview. Championing their Cause: Throughout the process we championed their cause, highlighting their strengths and potential to our clients, before securing the offer they were looking for. Through dedication and insight, dreams turned into reality. Want to experience a similar journey? CEO🔸Mentor🔸Career Coach🔸Army Veteran🔸“I am passionate about helping Veterans & their Families unlock new career opportunities.”
From Land Navigation to Career Navigation... Finding Your True North! As a veteran and career coach, I've seen countless service members transition from the military to civilian life. One of the most important lessons I learned during my time in the service was the importance of land navigation. In the military, we were taught to always know our location, destination, and the route to get there. Without a clear understanding of these elements, we risked getting lost or ending up far from our intended target. The same principles apply when it comes to navigating your career. Just like in land navigation, you need to have a clear understanding of your current position (skills, experience, and interests), your desired destination (career goals and aspirations), and the route you'll take to get there (education, networking, and job search strategies). Many transitioning service members make the mistake of jumping into the civilian workforce without first taking the time to reflect on their "why" and the direction they want to go. It's like getting in a car and starting to drive without knowing your destination or having a map. You might end up somewhere, but it's unlikely to be where you truly want to go. If you find yourself feeling lost or off course in your career journey, don't be afraid to stop, assess your situation, and consult your "map" (mentors, career counselors, or online resources). Just like in land navigation, it's better to take a moment to reorient yourself than to continue wandering aimlessly. Remember, finding your true career north takes time, effort, and self-reflection. But by applying the principles of land navigation to your career journey, you'll be well on your way to reaching your goals and finding fulfillment in your post-military life. #militarytransition #careernavigation #veteranjobs #landnavigation #linkedinveterans

Networking and Connections are import when you are transitioning from military service into the civilian world. Can, you convince a potential employer to target you in 30 seconds? Workshop: The 30-Second Commercial. Wed, Jun 26 from 2:00-3:00 PM ET. Register: https://lnkd.in/eqdSakuZ. A familiar, well-crafted 30-second commercial is an important tool to have in your career transition toolkit. It’s "YOU marketing YOU" as you share your who, what, and how in 30 to 60 seconds -- or about the time it takes to ride from the top to the bottom of a building in an elevator. Hence, the "elevator pitch." Join Capt. Pat L. Williams, USN (Ret), MOAA’s program director for engagement and career transition services, and learn how to craft and hone your elevator pitch. This workshop includes key transition guidance and tools, practical writing tips for your 30-second commercial, and the opportunity to ask questions. It doesn’t matter whether you’re leaving the military, remaining in a current job, or simply enjoying a relaxed life, you should always have a succinct response ready for "What do you do?" or "What are your plans?" or similar questions. Whether you're a networking novice or a well-seasoned salesperson, this workshop offers something for everyone. #veteranjobs #veteranstrong #transitioningservicemembers #militaryfriendly #militaryspouseemployment #militaryspouse #navyspouses #navyspouse #armyspouses #armyspouse #airforcespouses #airforcespouse #coastguardspouses #coastguardspouse #marinecorpsspouses #marinecorpsspouse #USMCveteran #transitioningnavy #transitioningarmy #transitioningUSMC #transitioningairforce #transitioningcoastguard #armyveteran #navyveteran #changeofmmission #militaryjobfair #militaryexperience #hiremilitary Tyrone Hewitt Shawn T.
