Renewable Energy - ESG -LCA- CSR- Sustainability Systems Strategies - project manager and policy specialist
"This session will delve into insights from the recently published Innovative Grid Deployment: Pathways to Commercial Liftoff: Innovative Grid Deployment report, which covers how advanced grid solutions can help utilities and regulators respond to grid pressures in the near term – including rapid demand growth, extreme weather, and new energy generation connections. The report explores strategies to accelerate deployment of twenty commercially available but underutilized advanced grid solutions, which can enhance grid capacity while improving reliability, resilience, and affordability. Chief Policy & Grid Strategy Officer at CTC Global | Transforming the Energy Grid with the Leading Advanced Conductor
Watch now: Broadcast stream of The White House Summit on Modernizing the Power #Grid. Important discussion around #advancedconductors, which in the carbon core variety increase power transfer by 2x at same voltage in existing ROW on existing towers w/o sag issues (in fact, carbon sags less as it heats up - inverse compared to steel) & fewer losses (20%+) at normal operating temps. "We have a great sense of urgency about getting this done" ... "a lot of work to do given so much of the grid needs upgrading" ... "this is the lowest hanging fruit." - Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm on GETs and Advanced reconductoring. The Secretary continued, "[w] understand risk aversion even though advanced conductors have been deployed all over the world" and talks about additional testing by national labs. Side note: the strength of carbon core advanced conductors is much greater vs. traditional steel core lines. This important meeting can be watched here: https://lnkd.in/egnZ47TA A series of panels on the topic of technology and deployment were moderated by Jigar Shah of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and then Julia Selker of the WATT Coalition, and included utilities like National Grid and Dominion Energy, manufacturers like CTC Global and Prysmian. A point: we're well past pilots. We need to catch up with world wide deployment and US utilities are moving in that direction but most orders are still outside of the US. #transmission #energy

Great overview of the complex US Power Grid. Take the 5 mins and get familiar with the “org chart” that ensure your lights turn on when you flip a switch.
A great crash course to help make sense of the various ways we organize the North American Power Grid!

We need to keep pushing a multi-prong approach to transmission development that uses all technologies and strategies at our disposal. That’s why it is great to see The White House using its convening power for yesterday's Summit on Modernizing the Power Grid where it announced a new federal-state grid deployment initiative. Advanced transmission technologies like advanced conductors and grid enhancing technologies #GETs are the keys to maximizing the grid’s current footprint while we plan and build new transmission capacity. Thank you Nana Menya Ayensu; Whitney Muse; Jennifer Granholm; Ali Zaidi; Jigar Shah; and Diego Nunez. Now the work turns to scaling up deployment of these advanced technologies where they make the most sense for the grid. Companies like CTC Global, LineVision, and The AES Corporation are leading the way, and we need to drive their use in the states across the country, building on the leadership of folks like Phil Hernandez, Chris Hansen, Jason Marshall, James Van Nostrand, Dan Burgess, and many of my colleagues at Advanced Energy United. https://lnkd.in/eJN86syT
