I hope you haven't given up on your goals for 2024. Today is just day 10 😊. Liz Truss holds the record for the shortest term in office as a UK Prime Minister, at just 49 days! Some people argue that winners do not quit... the truth is that winners quit ALL the time—they quit doing what doesn't serve them and focus on what does. This shouldn't be a licence for you to quit on your goals for 2024. Rather, it is an opportunity to learn. Here are 6 lessons we can glean from PM Truss; 1. Winners do quit. 2. Your words can come back to haunt you. Be very careful about what you say, how and when you say it. 3. The importance of alliances, the importance of a support system cannot be overemphasized. Liz lost the support of her party and team. 4. Don't promise more than you can deliver. Make promises based on facts, what is very probable. 5. Quit before you are forced to quit. 6. Have Goals, then create a plan to help you succeed. Dont forget to share your insights from this 'historical fail'.

Great event run by Sian Jones today. An opportunity to learn more about SofS’s thoughts on enterprise in Wales, and to challenge and probe on those areas of UK and/or devolved Gov policy and practice that could be improved. Big one for me is the need for a strategic complementary that punches through political colours and is centred on releasing entrepreneurial potential so that everyone wins. #wales #enterprise #joinedupthinking Business in Focus
We were delighted to host the Secretary of State for Wales, The Rt Hon David TC Davies MP, and Welsh Shadow Minister for the Economy, Paul Davies MS, this morning for a fantastic roundtable discussion on growing the Welsh economy. September 25, 2024 - Vice President Harris in New Interview: Trump is ‘Not Very Serious’ on the Economy Harris: “My plan would grow the economy, his would shrink the economy” .......After Vice President Harris outlined her pragmatic vision to help the middle class in her Pittsburgh speech today, she sat down with Stephanie Ruhle of MSNBC for an interview on her approach to building an Opportunity Economy. In the interview, Vice President Harris drew a clear contrast between her New Way Forward for the Middle Class and Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda to impose a nearly $4,000 middle class tax hike, give handouts to billionaires, and crush American jobs. “Donald Trump has a history of taking care of very rich people,” said Vice President Harris. “My perspective on the economy is, when you grow the middle class, America's economy is stronger.” “Not everyone, you know, gets handed stuff on a silver platter. And so my vision for the economy, I call it an opportunity economy, is about making sure that all Americans, wherever they start, wherever they are, have the ability to actually achieve those those dreams and those ambitions, which include, for middle class families, just being able to to know that their hard work allows them to get ahead, right? I think we can't, and we shouldn't aspire to have an economy that just allows people to get by. People want to do more than to just get by. People want to get ahead. And I come from the middle class.” “So first of all, when it relates to anybody making less than $400,000 a year, your taxes will not go up. Your taxes will not go up. And in fact, under my plan, taxes for 100 million Americans will actually be cut, including $6,000 a year for young couples for the first year of their child's life, in a tax cut, a tax credit essentially, by expansion of the Child Tax Credit.” “[Trump] lost manufacturing plants. Ask the auto workers how he lost auto plants. We have grown over 20 new auto plants.” “[Trump] has an agenda that would include making it more difficult for workers to earn overtime, an agenda that would include cutting off access to small business loans for small businesses [...] Top economists in our country, from Nobel laureates to people at Moody's and Goldman Sachs have compared my plan with his and said my plan would grow the economy, his would shrink the economy. Some of them have actually assessed that his plan would increase inflation and invite a recession by the middle of next year.” “So the facts remain that Donald Trump has a history of taking care of very rich people. And I'm not mad at anybody for being rich, but they should pay their fair share. But tax cuts for the billionaires and the top corporations in our country and then not really paying much attention to middle-class families. My perspective on the economy is, when you grow the middle class, America's economy is stronger. And there's empirical evidence to prove my point correct.” ###

The wing woman for senior leaders who want more than management | Strategic coaching for sharper decisions and stronger teams | 20+ years of no-fluff experience | Podcast host & Ecstatic Dance DJ
The UK Prime Minister just got a new cat, Prince. But what about Larry—Downing Street’s true veteran, who’s outlasted six Prime Ministers? Just like in any organisation, a new CEO brings in their own people, creating an inner circle. So, what’s Larry supposed to do when new leadership arrives with fresh faces (or paws)? Here’s my advice for Larry—and anyone in his shoes (or paws): 🔹 Stay visible. Don’t fade into the background. Whether it’s catching mice or solving big problems, keep showing your value by doing what you do best. 🔹 Adapt. New leadership means new rules (and sometimes new pets). Be flexible. Show you can thrive in any environment—whether it’s palace halls or corporate offices. 🔹 Leverage your experience. Larry, you’ve weathered six leadership changes. That’s priceless. Use your experience to guide the newcomers, whether they’re humans or kittens. Institutional knowledge is gold. 🔹 Build relationships. Instead of viewing the new arrival as competition, build a bond. Cozy up to Prince, or connect with the new team. Your experience can complement their energy. Legacy and experience carry serious weight. Larry, what you’ve seen, done, and contributed is invaluable. Your street-smart tabby resilience is exactly what Downing Street needs. We thank-you for your service. ❓What’s worked for you when the new boss brings their own people?

🗣✏️ Starmer has led what is effectively a large government department. His five years as director of public prosecutions (DPP) means he comes into Number 10 as an experienced leader having, rather unusually, run a state organisation before his political career had even begun. Starmer’s experience as DPP implies an emphasis on delivering. We can expect him to focus on fixing problems, finding solutions, and getting things done. We can also perhaps expect more emphasis on outcomes and an end to the politicisation and battles with the bureaucratic machinery of government that characterised the previous administration. It has been suggested that Starmer’s will be a mission-led government, organised around a set of guiding, longer-term missions with the goal of delivering certainty and sustained change. This idea is not new or particularly radical but it may appear so after the seeming chaos and short-termism of recent years. https://lnkd.in/dysDJZZr

“This will enable local leaders to develop powerful local growth plans that attract specialist industries and enhance their local strengths,” Starmer and Rayner add. The direction of travel for local and regional government under a Starmer Government couldn't be clearer: more power and long-term funding for places that have a clear plan for what they want to do, can articulate what powers they want to do it, and are able to demonstrate and measure what change will mean for their communities. Ending the "cap-in-hand" approach to local funding is going to be a major shift for Whitehall - so local government needs to be putting aside resource and time now to start the work needed to make a robust (five case model?) pitch on day one of a new government for why they should take greater local control over shaping their growth and prosperity. Government won't be able to do this everywhere at once so anywhere that isn't already putting this in motion is going to find themselves at the back of a very long queue. https://lnkd.in/eJyGdy3h

Thanks to everyone who joined us for Upwardly Global’s public board meeting on “Revitalizing Communities Through Workforce Partnerships” featuring: Jeremy Robbins, Executive Director of the American Immigration Council; Steve Tobocman, Executive Director of Global Detroit; Zachary Osolo, Assistant Manager at Interfaith Works of Central New York; and Tammi Ling, Upwardly Global Board Chair The conversation centered on how Upwardly Global and partners are building the business and advancing #immigrants into skill-aligned work in order to drive local economic growth, helping revitalize communities all around the country. We also delved into how we can deepen these partnerships and advance policies that are embedded in local communities’ needs. Right now, we’re seeing a lot of progress and momentum on reforms at the local level to eliminate red tape for internationally trained doctors so they can get back into their field to support communities that desperately need this talent. Last year, Illinois passed groundbreaking legislation with the support of Upwardly Global and other organizations and partners on the ground. Similar efforts are currently underway in Virginia, where the local legislature has also passed a bill currently awaiting for the Governor’s signature, as well as in many other states around the country. If you missed it, you can now watch it online! Learn about our innovative and successful workforce inclusion model, transformative partnerships, and impact. #EconomicInclusion #EconomicGrowth #CommunityRevitalization
