Today marks one month since I started with Benefactor Group as a Senior Consultant in the interim services capacity. Here are four reflections I would love to share: 🗓 30 days goes incredibly fast. If you are an organization hiring for a leadership position, allow your new hire to jump in but also give them space to sit with the new. The Bene team has been incredibly thoughtful about this. 🙋♀️ It’s okay to ask for help. I say this from a place of deep compassion for organizational leaders. I have been there. Lean on people to help you. Having a third-party lens is sometimes the hardest to budget for but the best money you will spend. 📚 Knowledge is power. Easier said than done, professional development and keeping your brain sharp is imperative to our sector. “This is how we have always done it” does not work anymore. 🔆 Nonprofits are amazing, and so are the people that work for them. As we begin to dive deep into interim services and what that looks like for nonprofits, we need to take a moment to acknowledge that this is hard work. Sometimes an organization is not the right fit for the people that are hired and sometimes the person isn’t the right fit for the organization. Let’s normalize saying that is okay. If your organization, or someone you know might benefit from interim services— a focus on expanding the capacity of nonprofit organizations through change and talent management, transition planning, and sustaining development infrastructure—I’d love to learn from your experiences and explore how Benefactor Group could help! 📢 Let's Chat! And if you want to know more about “Why I Serve?” (there might be some book recs at the end) read below!
Meet our newest “Bene”, Jenny Bergman, in our latest edition of “Why I Serve.” Jenny reflects on philanthropy, the common good, and how kitchen table gatherings taught her the importance of community and civil engagement. Get to know Jenny today! bit.ly/3UqEkzV

"One of the most effective ways board members can support their charter schools is to_____" What would you fill in the blank with? One of our longtime governance experts, Gina Fafard, says the answer is easy: "One of the most effective ways board members can support their charter schools is to clearly understand their roles and responsibilities and maintain a relationship with their CEO grounded in mutual trust and respect. Boards that do this well are actively engaged in the work of the board and are ambassadors for the school out in the community." To transform how your community engages with you and your work, consider listening before you act. In 2019 and 2020, Mission Partners served as the messaging and communications partner for NewsMatch—the largest grassroots fundraising campaign designed to support nonprofit news in the U.S. Through research, collaborative strategizing, and community listening, their fundraising goals exceeded the years prior despite the pandemic and politically charged attacks on the free press. What might your community be trying to tell you that could drive your mission to new heights? 🔹Read more about our work with NewsMatch: https://lnkd.in/eXWx4tAX 🔹Learn more about how Mission Partners can help you build community engagement: https://lnkd.in/e-p458pc

this is when you hire really smart and dedicated people.
A wise mentor once said “meet the donor where they are”. It was a privilege to present a braille proposal to a supporter of our major gift program in Nashville recently. For over 86 years we’ve been able bring people of all walks of life from all across the country to Edmundite Missions. In recent years our programs have elevated our clients through insurmountable ways. Our continued impact in the black belt communities is only beginning….Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP Global) AFP Miami - The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Miami chapter Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Palm Beach Chapter https://lnkd.in/dGecywrZ
