As a producer, you HAVE to put the effort in to learn about your client's business, product, marketplace and goals. I never ask flimsy 'open questions'... Detailed prior research is absolutely key to understanding the event and how to deliver your clients business objective. This event was fully over subscribed and the attendees loved it.
