Romania counts with one of the largest animal head-count in the region. According to official data from the National Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Authority, there are 926 EU approved meat establishments in Romania, including animal farms and slaughterhouses. At the end of 2022, Romania had over 1.8 million cattle, more than 3.3 million pigs, almost 11.7 million sheep and goats, and over 78.3 million poultry. According to the FRD Center analysis based on the official statistic data, in 2022, the number of sheep and goats as well as the poultry in Romania increased.  According to the data provided by the Agency for #RuralInvestment Financing to Ziarul Financiar, over 400 beef, dairy and pig farms were built, expanded or modernized with European funds of 383 mEUR through the National Rural Development Programme 2014 - 2020.   The National Strategic Plan 2023 - 2027 - Investments in Agriculture has a budget of 1.7 bn EUR for 2023. The responsible authority is the Ministry of #Agriculture and #RuralDevelopment through the National Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture. If you’re involved with livestock, animal, and animal product sector organisations then here’s some funding news you might be interested in… The National Agriculture Traceability Grants Program has launched the Livestock and Animal Traceability Development, Implementation, and Improvement Grant Round, offering a total of $4 million in funding for projects that enhance traceability systems and capabilities in your industry. Enhancing traceability for livestock, animals and animal products will support Australia’s access to existing and new markets; enhance our ability to respond to exotic pest, disease, and food safety incidents; and help to demonstrate how our livestock, animal and animal product sectors meet changing consumer expectations. The objectives of this grant opportunity are to: 1. Support the adoption and extension of technologies that enable enhancements to national traceability capacity and capability. 2. Reduce barriers to adoption of traceability. 3. Increase regulatory compliance capability where there are existing or emerging traceability requirements. You may be eligible if you’re an incorporated company, trustee, association, government entity, partnership, not-for-profit, or registered Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporations. 🤝 Back in February, the European Commission and the EU Member States authorities reached a consensus regarding the use of #live #insects in animal feed. The decision was announced during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food, and Feed (PAFF Committee). 🐛 The parties agreed that live insects may now be used in animal feed in the European Union. This includes feed for farmed fish, poultry, pigs, and pets, with the exclusion of ruminant animals.
