Big news for donors and charities! The federal government has announced that donations made until February 28, 2025 will be eligible for tax support in the 2024 tax year. This decision comes in response to the four-week Canada Post mail stoppage, which disrupted mailing campaigns for many charities during the busy holiday season. More than 40% of donations typically come in during this time. Thanks to advocacy from Imagine Canada, Cooperation Canada, and the Health Charities Coalition of Canada Inc., donors now have more time to contribute, ensuring their donations are processed and tax-receipt eligible. The spirit of this initiative is to offset delays in donations caused by the recent Canada Post shutdown. While we applaud the intention behind this proposal, many charities depend on your calendar year-end gifts to support their critical work. If you planned to give in 2024, and have the means to do so, we encourage you to donate before year-end. Particularly for small organizations, like A Dollar A Day and its grantees, these year-end gifts are vital to sustain our work. Gift Aid is so important to charities

This is quite an incredible statistic just released by the Charities Aid Foundation. The amount of money donated to food bank charities has increased by 50% year on year, with the British public estimated to have given almost £1 billion last year - it's a staggering amount when you consider the cost of living crisis. Based on a sample size of just over 13,000 people, CAF found that people donated £973 million to food banks in 2023, increasing from £635 million during the previous year. The latest official statistics from the government, shared by CAF, show that 3.3% of households used a food bank within the last year, with 1.4% saying they had used a food bank within the last 30 days (2022 to 2023). #charity #CAF #foodbank
