One of the most exciting opportunities I’ve had in my career as an Event Architect has been stepping into the role of Art Director for a few Nollywood movie scenes. It’s amazing how many parallels exist between directing a movie scene and planning an event. Both require attention to detail, a deep understanding of storytelling, and the ability to bring a vision to life. But here’s the takeaway for my fellow event planners and consultants: growth opportunities are everywhere. Whether you’re directing a film scene or orchestrating a wedding, there’s so much room for creativity, leadership, and professional expansion. If you stay curious and open to new experiences, you’ll find opportunities for growth in every corner of your career. The events industry is vast, and the world beyond it holds so much potential for us to thrive. #EventPlanning #GrowthMindset #EventConsultant

My biggest takeaway from working in the film & TV industry at Sky Studios: Speak up. I think in any entry-level role, it's easy to think you're "too junior" to be asking for what you want or contributing in conversations with higher-ups. When in reality, people remember what you say and will keep you in mind when an opportunity does come up. 🎬 If I was "too junior" to be asking to gain experience working on a TV set... → I wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to develop my production management skills in a fast-paced production office 🌠 If I was "too junior" to share my special interest in diversity, equity and inclusion... → I wouldn't have had the chance to attend DE&I events and take the lead on impactful projects I'm passionate about 💬 If I was "too junior" to ask senior people for coffee catch-ups to learn more about their career journeys... → I wouldn't have built the network I'm now always leaning on for advice and support (which I hope I'm returning the favour on!) Every opportunity is what you make of it - and you're doing yourself a disservice by underestimating the value you bring to a team. (No matter how junior you are!) Would love to hear some success stories from other people in industry! 🚀 #HETV #TVProduction #ProductionAssistant

Film/TV Production | Film Festivals and Events | Radio/VO | Square Peg/Round Hole Type of Thinker | Thrives in Chaos | Excellent Parallel Parker | Pitbull Dog Mom | Ready to Be Your Newest Coworker!
Anyone else getting frustrated by "doom scrolling" for jobs? Anyone else in a place where you don't even know what you're looking for anymore? I've had so many different jobs in an entertainment and entertainment adjacent capacity, and have built a very broad set of skills over the years. In talking to a job coach, their one critique was "what is your mission statement for yourself?" I. DON'T. KNOW. My passions and skills can take me so many different directions at this point that I don't want to close off any opportunities by limiting my search. In my previous job, I was in the very unique position of being a part of a brand new department in film/TV production. People's previous work experience and skills were looked at rather than just previous job titles. I feel like so many of the jobs I've been applying for automatically throw me out because I don't have "Project Manager," "Production Coordinator," "Associate Producer" titles, though I have essentially done those roles and possess the skills and experience to thrive in any of those roles, but I can't get a foot in the door. I wish the companies that I was applying to could look beyond titles, and just chat with me for a few minutes to see how accomplished, driven, and talented I am. I'm sure a lot of you all feel the same way too. And please stop telling us we're overqualified. We've seen the salary. We've seen the job descriptions. If we're applying, we're capable and willing. If we're "overqualified," you're essentially getting us at a bargain. Just give us a chance to use our skills and experiences to your benefit, and help us start making a paycheck again. #unemploymentsolidatity

In the media production industry, collaboration and teamwork are foundational to success.👨🏽💁🏻♀️ Individuals who excel are often those who can bring people together, forming cohesive teams and recognizing the contributions of others. This approach not only fosters a positive working environment but also drives creativity and innovation, as diverse ideas and skills are pooled together for a common goal. Conversely, individuals who seek constant attention, hoard glory, and exhibit exclusionary behavior often do so out of insecurity. This mindset can be detrimental to both their career and the projects they are involved in. Such behavior creates a toxic work environment, demoralizing team members and stifling creativity. When contributions are not acknowledged, or worse, appropriated, it erodes trust and respect, essential components of effective collaboration. For example, in the film industry, a director known for taking sole credit for a project's success, ignoring the contributions of the crew and cast, can find it increasingly difficult to recruit talented individuals for future projects. Talented professionals prefer to work in environments where their contributions are valued and recognized. As word spreads, the director may struggle to find willing collaborators, limiting their opportunities and potentially stalling their career. In another scenario, a television producer who is exclusionary, favoring only a select few and disregarding the input of others, can create rifts within the team. This not only affects the morale of the team but can also lead to subpar productions as not all ideas are heard or considered. Over time, such behavior can result in high turnover rates, with skilled individuals leaving for more inclusive and supportive work environments. The producer's reputation may suffer, making it challenging to undertake new projects or secure funding. The media production industry thrives on creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Those who cannot support a team, share credit, and foster a positive working environment ultimately find their careers impacted negatively. Their inability to adapt and collaborate can lead to missed opportunities, damaged reputations, and a potential end to their career in the industry. Successful professionals understand the importance of lifting others as they climb, creating a legacy not just of individual achievements, but of collective success and mutual respect. 🎬 #cinematographer #cameraman #commercials #setlife #filmmaking #filmmaker #directing
