On January 22, the government of the Leningrad region held a meeting of the operational headquarters (officials, military and security forces) dedicated to measures to protect the region against drone attacks. The project is supervised by Vice-Governor Mikhail Ilyin. It was decided to send an order to all enterprises of critical infrastructure and hazardous industries in the Leningrad Region stating that companies must create services to counter drone attacks, to staff them with personnel and equipment i.e. with devices for creating electronic interferences. According to plans, the military will train civil employees. Another decision was the formation of mobile groups to prevent such incidents. As it turned out, such groups existed before, but now the number will be increased several times. Exactly how many groups are kept secret. They consist of military personnel and of the Russian National Guard personnel.

While a strong air defense is crucial for Israel’s security, relying solely on it could be limiting. Defense systems like the Iron Dome and Arrow are effective but not infallible. They can intercept many, but not all, threats. A purely defensive strategy might leave gaps. Not to forget the costs of refilling interceptors. Investing in long-distance offensive missile systems is both financially and strategically wise in the long term. Israel, with its allies, needs to obtain and expand hypersonic missile programs.

Air Defense is currently difficult and expensive. This video highlights the new normal of low cost aerial threats against high value targets globally. The need for low-cost, highly effective air defense solutions has never been greater.
