📍 BAE Systems, Glasgow On the Scottish leg of his tour of defence industry sites, our CEO Andy Start was accompanied by Head of Combat Ships Delivery Group, Mark Beverstock. At BAE Systems in Glasgow they had the chance to witness in-person the progress that is being made on the Type 26 frigate programme. When complete, the Type 26 frigates will be the backbone of the Royal Navy’s surface presence and the most advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) warships of their time, designed for critical protection of the Continuous At-Sea Deterrent and Carrier Strike Group. The programme consists of eight ships and will support 1,700 BAE Systems jobs in Scotland, as well as around 2,300 jobs across the wider UK maritime supply chain until 2035. Andy said: 💬 “It was a proud moment getting up close to what will be the Royal Navy’s most cutting-edge Anti-Submarine Warfare frigates. These exceptional vessels will play a crucial role in the continued protection and prosperity of our nation, and it was a pleasure to meet those working hard to deliver this programme and to see the ships in build.”

One wonders if the prime objective is a naval capability or civilian employment.
