In some circumstances the loss of containers causes an environmental impact such as the 2009 case of the Pacific Adventurer in Queensland. In this presentation, Dr Kieran Dodworth (Head of Naval Architecture , Brookes Bell) sets out some of the lessons he has learned from his extensive experience in container losses and sets out weaknesses in the regulatory framework. Dr Dodworth’s focus on lesser known features of container stack behaviour which he considers to be one of the most complex structures in the marine environment. Happy Friendship Day to all my fellow Naval Architects! Remember the days when we could change line thickness with just a touch of the finger? One pencil was all it took to create bold or thin lines, simply by adjusting the pressure. It was an art, a skill we've honed over the years. Those were the days when our skills and intuition were our best tools. Today, the new generation has a plethora of software at their fingertips. While technology brings its advantages, I sometimes feel we’re losing the art of true visualization. The ease of clicking doesn’t always equate to the depth of thinking and designing necessary to depict accurate line weights and create compelling designs. Is it just me, or do you also feel that something vital is getting lost? Let’s reminisce together! What changes have you noticed in our industry? With loading capacity of over 9,000 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) - The Grande Shanghai and her sister ships are part of a major $2.5 billion newbuilding program, involving the delivery of 25 ultra- modern vessels in the period 2023-2027.
