I saw a recent post from an executive (a former CEO) who had received a couple of different lifetime achievement awards from the industry he spent his career in. The executive said he was honored and rightfully gave credit to the employees of the companies he led. That’s all well and good but making sure those people are recognized at every opportunity is more important. I know someone who traveled all over the world for several years accomplishing major goals for their company. Their EVP even accepted an award overseas for all that work at a major industry event. Great, right? Well, except for the part where he came back to the office, showed off the award to his staff and said, “Does anyone know what this award was for?”. Don’t be THAT executive. The one who doesn’t have a clue about major projects your teams are working on and how long and how hard they’ve been working on them. Likewise, don’t be a direct report to that executive who fails to make sure they know what their people are doing and how it’s contributing to the company. There are things that separate the great bosses — the ones employees all want to work for — from the ones that make people want to work somewhere else. Recognizing the accomplishments of the people who work for you as they’re happening and being openly thankful for the way those accomplishments reflect on you is at or near the top of the list.

Derwent welcomed more than 100 aspiring board members and guests to our Pathway to the Boardroom series with experienced Directors Joe Pollard and Debra Singh. Despite taking different pathways to secure their first board roles, both speakers emphasised the importance of building out executive experience and breadth before marking the transition to non-executive positions. There was also an emphasis on staying connected to the people who will keep you across the right board opportunities, which can be vastly different to executive networks. 2023 was a fantastic year. 🌟 Proud to be awarded Acosta Group's Quarterly Champion Award (Q2)! 🌟 This last quarter has been filled with so many proud moments that it's difficult to pick just one. If I had to sum it up, my ultimate goal across all my work comes down to three things: 1) Amplifying the growth minded culture here to show candidates that Acosta Group is a place where people build long, fulfilling careers. 2) Helping recruiters streamline their processes, centralize information, and make their jobs easier. 3) Educating TA on innovative ways to attract talent to the company. My journey began last July with a mission to create an employer brand that truly represents Acosta Group and drives talent across all our agencies. It's been a long road, and while there’s still more to do, I’ve learned so much along the way – about myself, the work I do, and the evolving nature of employer branding. I'm really proud of several pieces of work throughout my career, if I can toot my own horn for a minute. 💡 • Developed and deployed a global, enterprise-wide Leadership Development program in partnership with Droste Group. We are continuing to refine and reimagine the program and I'm excited for the next iteration because it might be the best one yet! • Created and launched a monthly video series featuring career journey's of employees. Angela, spotlighted below, is one of our recent employees to share her journey. The videos serve as a reminder that development is up to each person and there is no single way to find success and grow when you take accountability for your own path. • And, one of the unexpected things that brings me joy recently is being part of a team responsible for the content creation of our company LinkedIn page. This isn't a bullet in my job description, but it's also one of the best things about working at La-Z-Boy. There are so many opportunities to fall in love with work that aren't "in my job description". Using my undergrad in Communications (for the first time 😄), this allows me to flex my creative muscles and work with folks I might not otherwise. You know, the things you end up wanting to work on when the real work becomes overwhelming or too hard? This is that, exactly. I'm thankful I was asked to participate, as it's been very rewarding.🌱 There are many other really cool things I've gotten to lead or participate in over the course of 10+ years in Talent Development/Talent Management. And, I'm sure there will be many more opportunities in the next 10 years. And then, after that, I'm hoping I'll be lucky enough to retire early (JK...maybe. Isn't that a dream we all have? 🤭).
