South Oak Cliff High School was the setting for a highly publicized student walkout in 2016 due to the conditions of the school. Built in the 1950s, the Dallas high school had fallen into disrepair. KAI was brought on by Dallas ISD in response to community reactions and began partnering with community leaders and project stakeholders throughout the duration of the comprehensive project to ensure everyone’s voices were heard. Nearly all the existing facilities were renovated along with 60,000 square feet in building additions as well as two renovated learning courtyards that were previously inaccessible. The school now allows for 360-degree learning that can meet the needs of all learning styles. Since the grand opening, a new equitable learning environment with modern amenities has fostered an incredible community impact on the students, faculty, alumni, and surrounding neighborhood. The South Oak Cliff area has long been known for its passionate residents and their support for the school. In fact, the grand opening celebration in January 2020 included over 1,500 members of the community, officials, and alumni in gold and white SOC attire along with the band and choir in a march from the temporary school to the brand-new facility. This burst of positive momentum led to the SOC football team winning back-to-back Texas 5A-DII state championships in 2021 and 2022, the first Dallas ISD school to win a state title since 1950. The renovation has also led to more parental involvement and higher academic performance across the board. Modern Campus is the right platform for Iowa Lakes Community College Continuing Education and Workforce Development. Two favorite functions: TRANSCRIPTS for training and professional development courses/certifications and MULTIPLE registration capability for Companies to register employees for professional development opportunities and manage training fund investment. Cammy Skalla and Modern Campus team are wonderful to work with. Modern Campus colleges are great resources when transitioning to the platform. Thank you, Northeast Iowa CC, Kirkwood and Hawkeye Community Colleges (Iowa) for your support when we made the move in 2017. Making a major software or process change can be daunting. Convene a cross-functional team, and determine long term opportunity. It also helps to have a team with the “How can we…” mindset! Iowa Lakes continues to LISTEN to business and clients and BUILD on a customer-focused trajectory. Great to see that this was resolved with the correct solution. The plan to move to UB during City's renovation was a no brainer that should never have been in doubt. It is disconcerting that some members of BCPS's school board threatened to stop this innovative solution. In it's 185-year history, City has served students from every corner of the city. BCPS proposed a swing space school at 5001 Sinclair Lane - as far east as you can go in the city without being in eastern Baltimore County. Getting there would have been difficult even for students with access to cars or parents who drive them to school. For the majority of students - who rely on MTA buses to get to school - the commuting times would have been unsustainable. For students coming from northwest, west, southwest, and south Baltimore the commute times would have been so difficult that they would have forced students to choose other high schools. Hundreds of academically talented Baltimore children - many from disadvantaged backgrounds - would have been denied access to a premier college prep high school and its renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. BCPS's proposed swing school required $24 million dollars of upgrades to accommodate high school students; upgrades that would have little usefulness once City's renovation was complete. Thus, those improvements would have been an inefficient use of school construction funds and not at all in keeping with sustainable building practices. Such a relief that the sensible choice was made. CITY Forever!

#NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek continues! Knowing that 20% of students, faculty and staff are neurodivergent - a shift is needed toward a more inclusive culture in all campus settings. From classrooms and labs, sports and fitness spaces, to libraries, student common areas and cafeterias – designing spaces that address all physical and mental needs is critical. Access to natural light and the inclusion of biophilic elements were central to the renovation of St. Charles Community College's Life Science Building. The transformation gave them the teaching environment they needed to foster student success.
