What will it take for the construction industry to embrace and celebrate our failures? 🎉 We have been failing at construction in the United States since the day we started!! 🇺🇸 🚧 🏗 I believe alot of this comes from the Centuries old king and queen mentality of off with their heads!! 🪓 👑 When we do bad, we punish. What are you doing to change this long overdue for change thinking on your project sites? #lean #leaRn #leanconstruction #failure #punishment

integrity…Having the courage to standing up for what you know is the right thing to do….our current landscape of corruption it is hard to do. I encourage every president to write there own corporate ethics policy…sign it…make everyone in your company sign it.. and most importantly lead by example and enforce it.

Integrity?? attached here as described from a forefather of business mindset. To me Integrity, for clients of course is easy to describe. BUT what about the other forms of relationships our social profiles touch? AND why does OUR integrity matter to THOSE people? Again to me… It means leaving your ego in the truck while we navigate how to support not only our direct work team, but others teams around us. YES 🙌 Asphalt is a tough business but does that mean we HAVE to be tough against other’s teams? The drum beat of we are better then everyone else, to me, feels a little old hat 🎩… We certainly don’t need to be tough minded against the teams outside of our market. In this modern age that could actually backfire more then inspire… I mean… How could that look from a large manufacturer’s position who wants to step into affiliate sales with successful social profiles? Would they rule out negative posts in search of more supportive content and engagement? That’s not something I’m sure of but it is something that could potentially interfere. I believe there’s a few great examples set by individuals people like Marvin Joles and business owners like Ryan Austin on boosting the industry with a overall sense of common decency, which for many others like them, boils down to common sense. Helping 🙌 hands attract more then a closed 👊 fist. So when I see attacking or overly boastful content it pales in comparison to the way I’ve seen the industry change since 2005. Another great guy, Cisco Barron had a post the other day about, (paraphrasing here), when we find ourselves in “envy” that may mean we have some work to do on ourselves, and that really reminded me of a time, not that long ago that I couldn’t look at others success the way I do now. If I’M winning, YOU’RE winning! And vice versa… We aren’t all that different. The industry gets stronger when we link hands 🤝and support the industry movement toward a more positive and YES still tough future 🎯

I’d like to take a minute and reflect on the incredible impact that committee work has had and continues to have on the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA), and more so, the industry as a whole. Things are always changing and evolving. As a result, challenges, issues, unintentional consequences, whatever the case may be, an intentional look into the impacts are critical to forward progress. These committees exemplify the true spirit of collaboration. Whether it's addressing industry challenges, or shaping and re-tweaking specifications and policies, the work of these committees often goes quietly unnoticed by most people, yet the benefits are felt throughout the Commonwealth by all. The reality is that they are the heartbeat of progress and transformation. So…, a heartfelt thank you to the passionate individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to VTCA’s committees. Your commitment is the driving force behind the positive impact we as a group make in the transportation arena. I might add, interested in being a catalyst for change and contributing to the future of Virginia's transportation landscape? Explore VTCA’s committees, engage with peers in the industry, and be a part of keeping Virginia moving. There is important work yet to be done.

Keeping complex programmes on track. 🚉 As Barnet Council’s delivery partner, we helped to spearhead the construction of London's newest railway station - Brent Cross West - which opened to the public in December. Acting as the client’s ‘eyes and ears’ on site, we navigated the complexities of the multi-phase programme and ensured seamless coordination of stakeholders. Read here as Deputy Chief Executive for Barnet Council Cath Shaw shares her experience of working with us on this exciting and unique programme: https://lnkd.in/epEXkCXh

It’s amazing to see how our CPKC values of Accountability, Diversity and Pride are eloquently displayed throughout our new livery. This new and improved visual identity will have a mark on this company and the Railroading Industry as a whole for years to come. You can clearly see us celebrating our Diversity by proudly showcasing the American, Canadian and Mexican Flags. This is something that can not be mimicked or repeated. It is true to who we are and who we will continue to be moving forward. It is an identity that is unmatched. Pride in the fact that this final design was picked by the people making it happen every single day here at work. Every CPKC employee had the opportunity to voice their opinion and have a say in what our future looks like. Last and certainly not least, Accountability. Accountability in the sense that these three nations are putting their trust in the work we do daily. Accountability in the form of our customers and shareholders who demand service excellence and lastly, accountability to those who came before us and for those who are destined to join us in years to come… to never forget where we came from and continue to build this company to its true potential.
Our new livery is here! Chosen by our CPKC railroaders, this new design honours our proud heritage and celebrates our exciting future as one railroad connecting a continent. See it at the #FinalSpikeSteamTour stop on May 18 at Union Station Kansas City. #2816TheEmpress

January 5, 2024 America’s birth of modern Interstate Highways dates back to 1921 when Congress passed the Federal Highways Act. The Federal Highways Act of 1921 authorized the Bureau of Public Roads to begin funding State highway agencies in an attempt to develop a Interstate system of two lane, paved highways as a means of bringing together the States of our young country. After many years of successful progress, including passing the Miller Act of 1935 which provided much needed protections for the contractors involved in the Federally funded projects, the construction of the Interstate Highways system came to a near halt in 1941 as the United States became more actively involved in World War II.
