✨Company Spotlight ✨ Quantify R&D.tax Quantify director Simon Briton also works with Grace House, a disabled children's charity in Sunderland. He has helped them to create connections with other businesses and gets involved in helping run events. Pictured below is the VR room at Grace House, this was only possible because Simon and members of Design Network North worked together to create an innovative immersive experience facility for the members of Grace House, which was funded by Thrift Energy Ltd , another Gateshead business. Simon has recently been nominated for an entrepreneurs' forum Impact award for his work with Grace House.

Are we at the dawn of the entrepreneurial museum? (By this, we don't mean a museum about entrepreneurs, though that would be pretty cool.) The Art Newspaper explores museums that have developed revenue streams based on monetizing their expertise. Citing unreliable philanthropy, some museums are entering unconventional partnerships and spinning off businesses. This approach is not without challenges. Money-making ventures must relate to the charitable mission to avoid business taxes. Pursuing project requires a mind reset for non-profit executives and staff. Do you think this is a solution? What examples have you seen? https://lnkd.in/eFQnNrvN

Build unicorns, not charities. Nat Ware - Rhodes Scholar, multiple master’s degrees, serial founder of non-profits - thought that human capital could be unleashed through charities. I think we all want to make an impact and change lives. BUT, later he concluded he was wrong and built a unicorn instead. Through this journey, Nat founded Forte, a wildly innovative approach that allows institutions of all kinds - governments, foundations, investors - to INVEST in human capital. This is social entrepreneurship at it's best. Impact, and profit. --- Don P.S. If you like AR/VR, you'll love my weekly newsletter (free, duh). For our Web3&Business series, I just chatted with Colin Smith, CEO of BlockStart Scotland, about the risks & thrills of organizing a major Web3 event. We also discussed philanthropy, #fundraising, and much more. 💚🏴 Key takeaways: 🏴 Tuning in from Scotland, Colin rightly noted the London-centric 🎡 nature of the UK Web3 space. His enthusiasm almost made me want to move to Scotland myself. 💹 More seriously, though, with his fundraising experience and prior CFO roles, Colin also shared valuable insights into fundraising in the space. Said tips come in actually at the right moment since we are raising with Thrilld Labs atm. Drawing from his experience at places like Morgan Stanley, Colin addressed the similarities - or lack thereof - between corporate 🏦 practices and Web3 dynamics in terms of business, finances, and company structures. 🎩 To be transparent: Colin recently joined Thrilld Labs as an advisor, so we had to acknowledge what I call the "multi-hat" culture in Web3, meaning that so many of us are involved with Web3 in different capacities. Naturally, people wearing multiple "hats" also tend to be "head over heels" (pun intended) about the Web3 space, which is lovely, actually. ❣ 🙏 I appreciate what Colin has built with Unite Against Cancer and remain impressed with the business lessons he learned from running this charity for 12 (!) years now. -- ⏭ We've got thrilling interviews in the pipeline with amazing people about everything key to Web3&Business ❣. 💎 What is the purpose of this interview series and YouTube Channel? 💎 Creating open-access insights + learning ourselves is what I want to do here. 🔗 Link to the talk > comments.

When someone tells me they ditched a cushy corporate gig for entrepreneurship, my ears perk up. But the real question is always: Why? Enter Cari, the brains behind Benevolist.org. We first met during my Product Market Fit workshop for CED (Council for Entrepreneurial Development)'s GRO cohort, but that was just a brief moment. Our recent 1:1? That was proper quality time. Cari's crafting a purpose-driven business. Benevolist is all about improving the way items are collected for charitable donation drives by making it easier for organizers to manage them and for supporters to donate to them. That's a mission that makes you want to give Cari big hugs. Hearing Cari's story, I got it. The why. The purpose. The fire in her eyes when she talks about Benevolist. It's inspiring and contagious. Cari, thanks for trekking downtown for our chat. You're a reminder of why we do what we do. Keep being unique and changing the world, one benevolent act at a time. #purposedrivenentrepreneur #startupwithaheart #cedgro #trianglestartups #socialimpact #tech
