"Well is being drilled some 500 kilometres offshore and in nearly 3000 metres of water." "#ExxonMobil has spudded a major #wildcat offshore eastern Canada in a basin that has been barely touched by the drill bit." "The US supermajor has not revealed the size of the prospect it is drilling. However, given the structure lies in almost three kilometres of water and about 500 kilometres offshore Newfoundland & Labrador, it must be very big to stand any chance of being commercial." The Persephone well is being drilled by the #StenaDrillmax in the #OrphanBasin, which is north of the #FlemishPassBasin, where #Equinor is considering development of Canada's first deepwater oil prospect called #BayduNord. #NewfoundlandAndLabrador #CanadianOffshoreOil https://lnkd.in/gmEXXZQq

This day in history 📖✒️ The first offshore well drilled in the Gulf of Mexico's Creole Field was a significant milestone in the development of offshore oil exploration and production in the region. The Creole Field is located offshore Louisiana, USA, in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The discovery of oil in the Creole Field marked the beginning of offshore oil exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. The well, known as Creole No. 1, was drilled by Kerr-McGee Corporation in 1947. This well was situated in relatively shallow waters, at a depth of around 12 feet (3.7 meters), which was considered offshore at the time. Creole No. 1 was drilled using conventional drilling techniques of the era, including rotary drilling methods. It encountered significant oil reserves, marking the first major offshore oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico. This discovery sparked interest in further exploration and development of offshore oil and gas resources in the region. #ThisDayInHistory #OilandGas #Offshore #TheGlobalEdge #Drilling #GulfOfMexico

### Aker BP: Assessing Potential Gas Tiebacks to Skarv Area Offshore Mid-Norway Aker BP, a prominent player in the Norwegian offshore industry, has recently highlighted its efforts to explore and develop new gas reserves in the Skarv area, a region known for its extensive hydrocarbon resources in the Norwegian Sea. The company has successfully confirmed the presence of gas with an appraisal well located approximately 12 kilometers west of the Skarv field, carried out by the semi-submersible rig Deepsea Nordkapp. The primary goal of this campaign was to confirm the size of the previous discoveries made in 2022 by the 6507/2-6 well, which targeted reservoirs in Jurassic and Cretaceous rocks. The new appraisal well, 6507/2-7 S, drilled to a depth of 5,098 meters (16,725.7 feet) and 5,140 meters (16,863.5 feet) measured depth below sea level, has proven gas in the Tilje Formation, a Lower Jurassic formation that is 133 meters thick. #### Key Findings 1. **Reservoir Provenances**: – The well encountered gas in the Tilje Formation, which is 133 meters thick, with 43 meters in sandstone rocks of moderate to poor reservoir quality. No gas/water contact was observed in this formation. – In the secondary exploration target, the well found a 30-meter gas column in the Garn Formation and an 8-meter gas column in the Lysing Formation, both with varying reservoir qualities. 2. **Production Test Results**: – A production test on the upper part of the Tilje Formation yielded 300,000 cubic meters (10.6 million cubic feet) of gas per flow day through a 20/64-inch nozzle opening. 3. **Recoverable Reserves**: – Preliminary estimates suggest that the primary exploration target holds recoverable reserves ranging from 13 million to 55 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe), while the secondary target is estimated to hold between 8 million and 12 MMboe. 4. **Future Development Plans**: – Aker BP and its partner in production license 261, Harbour Energy, are considering tying the new discoveries to existing infrastructure in the area, such as the Skarv Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO

Chevron and Rhino Resources have filed environmental documents to support what will be two closely watched wildcatting operations offshore Namibia. The US supermajor and South Africa-based Rhino will fire-up exploration campaigns in the fourth quarter of 2024 or early 2025 on their highly promising acreage in the hydrocarbon-rich Orange basin where, for the first time in around two years, no drilling rigs are currently active. Chevron is gearing up to drill at least one probe in Block 2813B, north of TotalEnergies-operated acreage that hosts the huge Venus and Mangetti discoveries and west of a licence where Galp Energia recently declared that its Mopane discovery could host in-place resources of 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Rhino plans to drill two probes in Block 2914A, one targeting a prospect called Sagittarius that Namibia’s Petroleum Commissioner Maggy Shino recently described as “one of the most amazing prospects” she had ever seen. Last week, the Eni-bp joint venture of Azule Energy struck a deal to take a large non-operating stake in a block that lies immediately east of a Shell-controlled licence where it has made five discoveries, and just southeast of Galp’s prolific Mopane discovery. https://lnkd.in/dCnpY6FU
