🐶 For many, pets are more than just animals—they're family. As companies strive to build inclusive and compassionate workplaces, understanding the impact of pet loss on employees is crucial. #HR plays a vital role in offering the right support during such difficult times. Erika Sinner, author of ‘Pets Are Family,” shared a few thoughts with the folks at HR Brew on how managers can support employees facing the loss of their furry family members. 🐾 This week I read an article written by Erika Sinner titled "The ‘culture-changing’ effect of pet bereavement leave." This insightful piece delves into the transformative impact of offering pet bereavement benefits in the workplace. In the article she notes that nearly 70% of U.S. households include a beloved pet. 🐶🐱 For most of us, our pets are cherished members of our families and coping with their loss can be incredibly difficult. For this reason, her call to action was to bring more empathy into the workplace by recognizing the shared human experiences that unite us all. Inspired by Sinner's article and knowing that a significant portion of our workforce are probably pet owners, I'm eager to explore how we can incorporate similar initiatives to support our employees during difficult times of pet loss. 🤔 I am curious to know if anyone has implemented such policies in their organization, or have worked at an organization with such benefits? If so, what did the benefit look like and how impactful was it? If not, is anyone considering implementing pet bereavement benefits? From an employee’s perspective, would a benefit like this resonate with you; why or why not? Drop your thoughts in the comments! #PetBereavement #EmployeeWellbeing #EmployeeBenefits #HRCommunity #WorkplaceCulture

Pawternity Leave and Pet Bereavement Leave - Are They Worth Considering? In today's evolving workplace, employee well-being is more important than ever. As pet ownership rises, some companies are exploring new benefits to support their teams. But how serious should we be about offering Pawternity Leave for new pet parents and Pet Bereavement Leave for those who have lost a beloved companion? What are your thoughts on these potential benefits. Are they a necessary step towards a more compassionate workplace, or do they risk being seen as too much? I have a fish and stick insects. Should I be claiming Finternity' and 'Twigternity'? and when it comes to Pet Bereavement Leave for a stick insect or a fish to HR I might get some odd looks, but, love is love, right?

"Pawternity" leave, also known as "furternity" leave, is gaining traction as a new employee benefit. Giving workers time off specifically to care for their fur friends or bereavement after a beloved pet dies acknowledges the important role pets play in their lives. If you're considering implementing "pawternity" leave policy, consider what pets are covered, how many days to offer, or if there will be a yearly cap on pet bereavement leave. #EmployeeBenefits #PTO #HumanResources https://lnkd.in/gCcaUsfh

The loss of a pet can be as profound as losing a human family member, yet this grief is often misunderstood in the workplace. Recognising the importance of supporting our employees during such difficult times is crucial for fostering a compassionate and understanding work environment. As a dog owner myself, I know how deeply we bond with our pets—they are truly part of the family. Pet bereavement leave and empathy-driven policies are not just about time off—they're about showing that we value the whole person, including their furry family members. By fostering a culture of compassion, we help our teams navigate their grief with dignity and understanding. HR professionals have a unique opportunity to lead the charge in normalising pet bereavement and ensuring that employees feel supported and cared for during these tough times. An employee who feels understood and valued is one who can bring their best self to work, even after a loss. https://lnkd.in/gthjquxZ #DrJaclynLee #HR #EmployeeWellbeing #CompassionateWorkplace #PetBereavement #EmpathyInAction

Pet owners - how supportive are your employers if they get sick… or worse 💔 3 years ago this week my beloved Scooby was diagnosed with cancer And within 3 months he has passed over the rainbow bridge 🌈 I was totally devastated by his diagnosis as although he was almost 12 when he got sick… He’d always been a really healthy vibrant dog full of vitality After his diagnosis I nursed him, had to be more present whilst he sadly deteriorated before we made the decision to put him to rest And as the anniversary approaches it got me thinking So many of you are pet parents and if you found yourself in the same position I was in Just how sympathetic and supportive is your employer Owning a pet is lifechanging And I also imagine a lot of you became pet owners during Covid so if you’re now being asked back into the office how is that working with your pet during the day?! 😬 Scooby was irreplaceable - a once in a lifetime doggie who was a vital part of my children’s lives - literally their childhood and their loss was insurmountable Here’s one of my fave pics of Scooby- post bath (which he hated consistently for 12 years 😂) Wasn’t he a gorgeous boy 💔 How do you cope if there’s sickness to deal with? Do you take it as leave? Employers can provide pet bereavement as well and I wondered whether this is a rarity or become common place? What’s your experience been? #recruitment #recruitmentindustry #recruitmentlife #rec2rec #dogsoflinkedin #petlovers
