BAM led consortium Element 1, which is researching and developing a hydrogen solution for the construction industry, launches its new website. Element 1 is striving to achieve a truly end-to-end solution using hydrogen as a supplement to power the future construction industry in a more sustainable way, making possible the reduction of carbon emissions and helping achieve our Net-Zero goals. Colin Evison, Innovation Technical Lead at BAM says: ‘This is an exciting opportunity to work within a collaborative consortium to explore and develop a viable fuel solution that will help reduce the impact that the construction industry has on the environment. We see Hydrogen as part of the solution for fuelling our sites in the future to build a sustainable tomorrow’ 👉 https://lnkd.in/dK72ihXR BRE | Flannery Construction | GeoPura | Plantforce | Reynolds Logistics | Skanska | ULEMCo Ltd #Innovation #DESNZ #MakingPossible #Sustainability

Enersense won a contract in Fingrid's public bidding process at the beginning of the year for the construction of three new 110 kV substations in the Harjavalta area. As part of the project, Enersense's delivery includes all steel structures to be built in the substation area, requiring a total of 76,000 kg of steel. Through its partners, Enersense procures all the steel structures in question as low-emission steel. In this project, low-emission steel means that the structures to be delivered are made of recycled steel and their carbon dioxide emissions are, on average, approximately 40% lower compared to structures manufactured using iron ore-based production methods. The project is Fingrid's first of this scale in Finland where all steel structures in the substation area will be delivered made of low-emission steel. "Our experts have worked hard to find more sustainable steel solutions. Our procurement department has been in contact with nearly 100 different suppliers around the world to find suitable steel structures with lower emissions. We are excited about the result, but we know that this is only the first step towards sustainable steel construction. Fingrid has played a very important role in the realisation of the project. Such projects can be implemented when the end user is genuinely committed to their own emission targets," says Eero Törmä, Engineering Manager for substations, Power at Enersense. H2 Green Steel is transforming the steel industry by producing steel with a minimal carbon footprint. The project will produce 2.5 million tonnes of green steel annually, with the use of green hydrogen powered by fossil-free electricity in the steel making process, reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 95 percent compared to traditional steelmaking. Having announced completion of a financing package of more than EUR 6bn earlier this year, H2 Green Steel showcases the viability of innovative green financing models in traditionally carbon-intensive sectors. Access PFI (subscription required) for a briefing highlighting the business case, project financing and support required for a project of this magnitude by Christophe Hadjal, Tim Hawk and Matthew Stewart. 👉 Read an excerpt of the article: https://lnkd.in/eTejEuBP

Spain’s Hydnum Steel (HS) says it is making progress on its plan to build the first green steel plant in the Iberian Peninsula. The project involves Helvella, Siemens, ABEI Energy and Russula Corporation. The production is planned to be located in Puertoiano (Castilla-La Mancha region). A priority project application for the construction of the plant was submitted to the regional government. The procedure confirms the justification of its social and economic interest at the regional level, as well as its public utility and strategic nature. Recognition of the project as a priority guarantees a preferential administrative procedure and accelerated implementation, especially in matters of land and urban planning. Among other benefits, it provides for economic and financial incentives. The plant is designed to use non-fossil energy throughout the production process and to gradually introduce green hydrogen into the process to significantly reduce carbon emissions.
