Our 7th Business Manifesto has been launched. An incredible document which outlines the 5 main priorities that the Chamber will focus on for 2024, as indicated by our members. Another exciting year ahead for the Chamber - bring on 2024! #tvcc #thamesvalley #chamberofcommerce
On Friday evening, at our Annual Dinner at Windsor Castle, we launched our 7th Business Manifesto. Framed by 5 main priorities, the 2024 Manifesto sets out the issues and challenges faced by the Thames Valley business community and the opportunities that our membership wants us, it's Chamber, to work on and champion. These are - 🗨 Infrastructure network resilience and adoption – promoting the opportunities of the technology and supporting investment that can future-proof our region. At our International Technology Conference at 3M on May 9th 2024 we will aim to prepare the readiness of Thames Valley SMEs for developments and implications of Artificial Intelligence. 📚 Shaping our future skills needs – implementing the next steps of the Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs) and shaping the future of the Thames Valley Skills Unit. Our work will continue as we spearhead British Chambers of Commerce (BCCs) national evaluation of the Chamber led Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIP) and promote the merits of new curriculum co-developed between local business and educators. In response to the skills shortages, we will launch new training to support local businesses in their recruitment, retention, upskilling, and workforce development. 🌍 Pathway to net zero (and climate change) – advancing the work around sustainability as outlined in our State of the Region report. 🚢 Trade and Inward Investment – Delivering services that enable high value and volumes of trade and inward investment continues to flow. We will redouble our efforts on behalf of the business community to promote the Thames Valley as a leading international location through a refreshed and focused presence on our website. With new trade consultancy and value-added services, we will continue to champion opportunities for local businesses in key markets and deliver the national BCC hub for the Osaka 2025 World Expo. 📢 Delivering regional leadership, championing the Thames Valley – putting and representing businesses at the heart of stakeholder engagement and political decision making, ensuring they invest in success, and that we promote our wider sector and market strengths. The scope and influence of the Thames Valley Assembly continues to grow as we amplify the voice of our regions key industry sectors, and businesses large and small. We will contribute to the new BCC National Business Council and to the wider development of the UK Accredited Chamber network as the voice of local economies. Making real estate transactions more transparent and more profitable by leveraging tech and personal relationships | Lifelong Relationship Builder | ex-LinkedIn, Amex, WSJ
Living and working in Miami for over 20 years, I've witnessed the city's transformation into a global investment hub. The recent panel discussion I attended at DLA Piper offices on investments between Miami and Dubai reaffirmed Miami's position as a crucial investment geography. As Peter Yared highlights in his insightful article, the future looks different from any other time. Miami is no longer just a gateway to Latin America, but a global player in its own right. What do you think about Miami's evolving role in the investment world? #MiamiInvestments #GlobalInvestments #MiamiDubaiInvestments

Co-Founder, President, & CEO at LW Hospitality Advisors | Hospitality Real Estate | Appraisals, economic feasibility evaluations, investment counseling, asset management, receivership, and transactional services.
Evan Weiss, LW Hospitality Advisors co-founder and COO recently moderated a panel at the 35th Hunter Hotel Investment Conference. The panel included Teague Hunter, Kevin M. Davis, Bill G., and Daniel C. Peek. They had a great discussion, offering insights into trends, risks, and investment opportunities while forecasting potential market trajectories. In this snippet, Kevin shares that the beginning of the next cycle is already underway and to not be surprised when sizable transactions happen later on in the year. What do you think? Is he on to something? I'd like to hear your thoughts. The link to the entire discussion will be in the first comment. #hospitalityindustry #hotelindustry

According to hospitality thought leader, Carrie Russell, AACI, MAI, RIBC, ISHC, the Canadian hotel industry stands on the cusp of stabilization and sustained growth. As we moved into 2024, the industry anticipates a shift towards a more stable growth pattern. Experts predict a modest RevPAR growth of 2.3% for the current year, with gradual increases to 2.8% in 2025 and 3% in 2026. This transition marks a return to basics, where operational excellence and customer experience become the focal points for sustainable success. Learn more in the article below.
Always a great opportunity to speak to the hotel investment community at #CHIC2024. We are at a good place in the cycle right now, always challenges, but they are manageable and lots of exciting projects planned for the future.

Strategies for asset ownership vary as widely as the assets themselves, regardless of where in the world a company is located. Thanks Robert Williams for calling attention to this panel at #HICAPANZ and the coverage on Hotel Investment Today. It's a topic that always brings interesting insights with it. Also, thanks Robert for pointing out the message from Jerry Schwartz--an important reminder indeed.
This panel was the highlight for me at the recent #HICAPANZ in Sydney - an interesting discussion focusing in on the benefits of a total return strategy. Takeaways from the conference were that senior debt is becoming easier to secure, with a number of groups having success refinancing out more expensive credit, Melbourne + VIC proving to be resilient in trading, and there is growing confidence that we will see more transactions next year, as interest rates come off. AI a big discussion point too, with most acknowledging as a sector, we are well behind the game. Round of applause to Jerry Schwartz who encouraged all the men of a certain age in the room (yes, we're still overrepresented/overrepresenting!) to go and get a PSA test. Good counsel right there. We are almost done the finishing touches of our Sixth Annual Family Office Summit, held in Toronto at the lovely Toronto Region Board of Trade on Queen's Quay. We already have 45 SFOs confirmed for these sessions and the conference. If you'd like to participate, please let me know (and early, as we vet everyone and nearing capacity). April 10th is a full day of content and networking. As usual, we NEVER share contact info of any attendee - please use the conference app to connect and book meetings during the days. We are lucky to have long-time SFO professionals from each camp: Enzo Gabrielli, CPA, CA, CFA, ICD.d (Horizon Capital Holdings - Rt. Hon. Paul Martin's FO) and Scott Morrison, CFA (Wealhouse Capital Management - Jim Balsillie's FO). Operating Company vs. Portfolio Investments Family offices come in two basic flavours: ones that continue to hold the operating company that founded it, and ones that are holding other, portfolio, investments subsequent to the sale. Each one has a distinct dynamic based on the legacy investment, relationships, and relationships to the legacy investment. This panel will discuss the pros and cons of having this ‘founding asset’ on the books throughout successive generations vs. a situation where the investment mix is that of a newer, usually more diversified sort. Three Shades of Staking GPs There’s nothing like the focus afforded a new venture – plus the commensurate risk of ruin that might come to pass if the company is not run well or simply doesn’t achieve the scale required to continue as a going concern. As well, hitting one’s stride and capitalizing on hard work is paramount to leaping to the next stage. This panel will impart practical wisdom from three single family offices who invest in more start-up and emerging managers – great information for managers and investors alike.
