Michael Barasch and Valerie A. Velazquez-Stetz of Barasch & McGarry - Lawyers for the 9/11 Community, in an interview with PIX11, shared the enormous gratitude of the 9/11 community on learning that U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin revoked a plea deal for three terrorist masterminds of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. “Justice is not just for the defendants, but it’s also for the victims. We deserve answers. I speak on behalf of nearly 40,000 who I represent who want to know, who funded these terrorists?” said Barasch, who advocates for 9/11 responders and survivors who have been diagnosed with cancer or respiratory illness from their exposure to Ground Zero toxins, as well as their families. Retired Jersey City police officer Velazquez-Stetz, a 9/11 responder, said members of the 9/11 community "are all grateful now" at the opportunity to confront in a courtroom the terrorists responsible for the deaths of 3,000 people on 9/11 itself and more than 6,000 members of the 9/11 community in the nearly 23 years since 9/11.

As we continue to hear more and more stories of communal conflicts, it is disheartening to hear that criminals are taking advantage of these situations to commit heinous crimes. The recent murder of soldiers in the Delta community is a clear example of this. I condemn this act in the strongest terms possible. However, I also condemn the retaliation of burning down the community by the soldiers. It is important that communities give maximum support to security forces to provide adequate security for all. The military may have condoned the community down in retaliation, but rather than burn it down, they can work with community leaders to fish out the armed criminals within the creeks. There is a standard in governance, and it is embedded in the constitution. My stand will always be clear: I stand for justice, and I condemn any act of violence against innocent citizens. It is time for us to come together, work with our security forces, and put an end to these senseless killings. #JusticeForAll #EndCommunalConflicts #SecurityForcesNeedOurSupport

Clear, hold, build. I first heard about this tactic years ago as that used by U.S forces in the Iraq counter-insurgency. It has been re-referenced in recent weeks by American advisors on Israel/Gaza. In 2023 The College of Policing published a briefing document on British policing adoption of the tactic. It was subsequently implemented in a small number of metropolitan areas with entrenched organised criminality and now forms part of the Met’s new strategy. The use of military doctrine in UK policing is something that I think we will see more and more of in the coming years. https://lnkd.in/efzJe5N9

It's amazing to me how someone like Janet Mello can get away with years-long criminal fraud that resulted in the theft of over $100 million dollars via 49 fake grant applications without getting flagged. How did this mid-level Department of the Army civilian employee explain away her sprawling mansions across the country or the 80 vehicles she purchased? All her Gucci purchases? Didn't anyone suspect something? Not a single person remembered their DoD insider threat training where extravagant spending is a warning sign for potential malicious activity? More concerning, if the bulk of the funding came from the 4-H Military Partnership Grant that is run by USDA, weren't there any monitoring or audit activities to ensure grantees were using U.S. taxpayer money appropriately? Lesson learned here is that ongoing monitoring and auditing matters, and it's only effective it's meaningful vice a check-the-box activity. https://lnkd.in/g-52dPzh

One of the recent trends in litigation is that trial defense is shifting from fact based to Narrative based. Plaintiff counsel has adopted a strategy of distraction. If the facts for their case are not as strong as they would like there is the possibility their line of questioning can get off the rails. Questions like these may be asked: 1. What church do you belong to 2. What civics groups do you volunteer at? 3. Where do you send your kids to school, public or private 4. Where you ever in the military, how long did you serve, discharge status ...and the list goes on. Social media investigations have traditionally focused on the claimant. However, if you are headed for a deposition that might go off the rails, you might want to consider doing a social media investigation on the defendant. As we all know, a breach of credibility can have a disastrous effect on the outcome of a trial, regardless who is sitting on the stand. It might be better to evaluate the credibility issues before the trial starts. Fraudsniffr can help.
