Today, we honor the memory of New York City Fire Department Firefighter Dan Noonan, a true hero who recently passed away from a 9/11-related illness. He was 76 years old, and leaves behind a legacy of courage and service. We will never forget Dan’s advocacy on behalf of the FDNY and entire 9/11 community. It was an honor and a privilege for Barasch & McGarry - Lawyers for the 9/11 Community to represent such a remarkable individual. 364 active duty FDNY members have lost their lives due to 9/11-related illnesses, along with hundreds of retired firefighters like Dan who selflessly answered the call in our country’s most dire hour of need. On September 11, 2001, Dan was retired from the FDNY and living in California. But when he learned about the terrorist attacks, he made a 55-hour journey from San Diego to Ground Zero, volunteering with search-and-rescue and recovery teams at the site. Dan, who had previously responded to the New York Telephone Fire in 1975, was later diagnosed with cancer and respiratory illness from his exposure to toxins at the World Trade Center site. Yet, he continued to fight, not just for his own health, but for his brother firefighters who faced life-threatening illnesses. Let us honor Dan’s memory by continuing his fight, and let us never forget the sacrifice he made. Many of us knew him not just as a hero, but also as a dear friend. We will miss you, Dan.

Contrary to the Government's pledge that the injustices of the Hillsborough tragedy will never be repeated Paul Whiteing of AvMA has received the following email in response to his peronal call to the Deputy Prime Minister for a judicial inquiry into the 34 year NHS/State cover up of Robbie Powell's grossly negligent death. The letter was contemptuously passed to the Department of Health for response by the Rt. Hon. Oliver Dowden MP. 1. There was no response from the Deputy Prime Minister or an acknowledgement of receipt; 2. The response, which has taken 2 months, was in an email and not on Headed Government Paper; 3. It refers to Mr Whiteing's letter being dated the 20th December when it was actually dated the 13th December 2023; 4. It referred to Robbie being killed in a road 'traffic' accident when the child died as a consequence of gross medical negligence; 5. It refers to Robbie as Mr Robbie Powell when he was a 10 year old child; 6. The email falsely implies that Robbie's death has been fully investigated and that no further lessons could be learnt from a judicial inquiry, which I and others, including the Parliamentary Ombudsman, strongly refute; and 7. The email appears to be from a civil servant when the response should have come, in my view, from a Government Minister. RIP Robbie xx
"Government pledges never to repeat the injustices of Hillsborough" and yet the 34 year NHS/State cover up of Robbie Powell's grossly negligent death and many others continue. Robbie died a year and 2 days after the Hillsborough tragedy! RIP Robbie xx https://lnkd.in/e7F7t2i8 https://lnkd.in/eyF5prnj

📢 This was too important to me to not post it on LinkedIn. The scorching 110F/43C temperatures in Arizona have been relentless this summer, and therein lies an ominous danger: children left in hot cars. In my years in healthcare, I've seen the devastating impact of such preventable tragedies. I’ve also wondered, how could that happen? It’s not as simple as you think. Researchers have found that deviations from a routine increase the likelihood of a parent (or grandparent!) forgetting about a child in a vehicle. You can take these simple steps to prevent such tragedies: ↳ Always keep your car locked even if you don't have children. ↳ Keep your keys out of children's reach. ↳ Teach children how to honk the horn if they are trapped. ↳ Place an essential item that you won’t forget such as your purse, wallet, or phone in the back seat with the child. ↳ If a child is missing, immediately check the inside and trunk of all cars in the area first. ↳ If you see a child alone in a car, ensure they are okay and call 911 if any concern. P.S. Many states’ Good Samaritan laws protect you if you need to break a window to save a child! Are there other ideas that people have? #ChildSafety #PreventHotCarDeaths

Death is not something many people like discussing. We need to have such conversations because the way we collectively are dealing with death is not good. Cremation may be cheap, but it's socially immoral. Every time we turn someone or something into a crispy critter, it goes up the flue stack, and there is no filter on the flue stack. This means you, your family, and everyone you know get to breathe in the mercury, Elements such as lead, cadmium, and chromium, dioxins and furans, Hydrogen Chloride (CHI), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Burying someone is a steel coffin or casket is not a great answer. Batesville Casket Company and Matthews International Corporation (82% market share), source their steel from inside and outside (China 5% of market share) of the US for their metal caskets and coffins. To make a steel coffin or casket, raw iron ore or scrap steel is melted and refined using an Electric Arch Furnance (EAFs) to refine the molten steel into castings. Once the casting is solidified, it is then hot and then cold-rolled to a smooth finish. The amount of energy used to make a steel or metal coffin or casket is enormous, and we haven't even constructed the coffin or put in any fabrics or other materials. We need to be good stewards of the earth, and we need to change the way we deal with end of life. https://lnkd.in/eGSmF77B #OrderofaGoodDeath #GreenBurial #EndOfLife
The more coffins we grow, the more we think about death. Hopefully, you have Nothing to Fear. If you do, we recommend you read Demystifying Death to Live More Fully, Nothing to Fear, by Julia McFadden https://lnkd.in/eEbv8abN #MyCoffin #TheOrderoftheGoodDeath #livingwell #greenburrial

Good Read
"Ruby and I were on the Southern State Parkway when it became obvious we had a flat tire. There's no shoulder on the side of that highway, so I pulled off onto the grass, and, almost immediately, a black Jeep pulled off the highway in front of us, just as I was looking for the phone number for AAA. A young man wearing a yarmulke stepped out of the Jeep into the 96 degree heat and walked over to the passenger side window of my car. He said he had lots of tools in his car and could change my tire for me. Really? 'Yes,' he said. 'I see you have a child in the back, and, if this happened to my mother, I'd like to think someone would do the same for her.' So, as he's changing the tire, we started chatting and he told me there's a group of people in his Orthodox Jewish community who do volunteer roadside assistance - for anyone and everyone. There's also a volunteer ambulance. I said I've never heard of such a thing before. And he said, 'Yeah, you only hear the bad stuff about us.' He quickly and adeptly finished changing my tire, and, as I was thanking him profusely, I asked if there was anything I could do to thank him. He responded with a smile, 'Zero.' I got back in the car, crying. Ruby asked me why I was crying, and I said they were happy tears and tears of relief. So super scary to think about how much worse the day could have been for us, and such an amazingly kind person who came to our rescue. That kid has his ticket to heaven written in stone. If you've gotten this far in reading, please consider doing something kind for a stranger today - I know I will." Credit: Isobel Stone

Former Coastguardsman continuing life-saving service through CPR training, first-aid, and access to defibrillation. Partnering with those committed to life preservation with a shared mission that everyone returns home.
🚔 Ensuring Safety, One AED at a Time: Had the privilege of donating two AEDs from our raffle at Texas Police Chiefs Association Conference to Chief Dan Harris over at Stephenville Police Department and Chief Bobby Lane over at Converse Police Department. In today's financial climate, police departments are stretched thin, prioritizing the safety of their communities while managing tight budgets to retain staff. With cardiac arrest being a real threat in any community, having access to defibrillation can truly make all the difference in saving lives. At SafetyMed, we believe in supporting our local law enforcement agencies and empowering them with the tools they need to protect and serve. These AEDs will not only enhance the capabilities of our police departments but also provide an essential lifeline in critical moments. Just one device can truly make all the difference in saving a life. That's why we're extending our support beyond these departments, offering partnering consultative services to commands across the State of Texas aiming to enhance their response times to sudden cardiac arrests. 🚨🫀 chris.manning@safetymed.com

What’s my WHY⁉️ In 2018 I volunteered at a Veterans homeless Stand Down, and ran into a person I was stationed with 12 years earlier…unfortunately they were enrolled in HUDVASH and weren’t one of the other volunteers.
Somebody needs to hear this TODAY!!! Somewhere out there, there’s s person, actually MANY that don’t have a D214 that is easily accessible to your FAMILY members. How do I know this? Because people reach out weekly (twice today)….not just the veteran… BUT Family members. ✅ Spouses ✅ Siblings ✅ Children ✅ Parents ✅ You name it Looking to get a copy of the DD214 because the veteran passed away, and now the family is trying to make funeral arrangements and/or trying to apply for SURVIVOR benefits. Yes, the funeral director and or VSO may be able to assist..but why wait (who knows how long). Let’s not talk about “archives” Do your self a favor. Print SEVERAL copies and put them in a fire proof box. (Let people know) Give a few to loved ones. Have an easily accessible downloaded copy. Whatever you have to do. I can tell you, once the DD214 is needed, and not readily available - it just makes the event even more stressful. 🤨 If you’re a loved one….do you know where the DD214 is? If not…ask the Veteran. 🔥 the long form DD214 (member 4 or 2) You better call Tyrone
