As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, let's honor the trailblazers, heroes, and leaders who have left an indelible mark on our nation. These statistics remind us that Hispanic Americans have not only enriched our culture, history, and achievements but have also played a vital role in safeguarding our nation's freedom.

Hispanic Heritage Month Facts: Each year, the United States observes National Hispanic Heritage Month. 1. National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15 2. National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America 3. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson 4. It was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period 5. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988 6. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua 7. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively 8. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30-day period

In honor of Latino Heritage Month, we're proud to spotlight Mariah Roman! ⬇️⬇️ Q: Where are you from? A: I'm from Mesa, Arizona. Q: What is your role within the Cardinals organization and how long have you been in this role? A: I am a Seasonal Athletic Trainer, and this is my first year in this position. Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?  A: The most rewarding part of the job is helping an athlete return to play following an injury because they get to go back to doing what they love. Q: Why is Latino Heritage Month important to you?  A: It is an opportunity to highlight our history, traditions, and achievements. It's a chance to share and promote awareness of our contributions to society including food, fashion, music, art, literature, dance, sports, and more.  Q: Why is diversity/representation important in the workplace?  A: A diverse workplace brings a wide variety of experiences, skills, and perspectives together to solve problems and close gaps. Diversity increases creativity and strategic thinking because everyone has a different background and level of knowledge. It also allows for stronger relationships and connections to form based on shared experiences and understanding of one’s differences. Q: What advice would you give young Latino professionals who are looking to break into the sports industry? A: It's significant to realize that the diversity and cultural experiences that one brings are valuable. Do not be afraid to stand out and be different, to be your true authentic self because we bring a unique perspective to the table.

This time period was chosen because September 15 is the anniversary of independence for the Latin American countries El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Honduras. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and 18, respectively. Belize celebrates its independence day on September 21. The observation began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson, and was expanded in 1988 to a 30-day period by President Ronald Reagan. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. Latinx history is American history. Modern Widows Club recognizes and honors the immeasurable achievements of the Latinx and Hispanic American community which have enriched our society and culture and helped us build a stronger nation.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 to October 15. By aligning with these independence dates, Hispanic Heritage Month honors the resilience and determination of the Hispanic community.
