Embracing Flexibility and Resilience in Our Journey As #widows, we’ve all faced the unimaginable. Our worlds have been turned upside down, and the future we once envisioned has shifted. Yet, amid the sorrow and uncertainty, we’ve discovered something powerful within ourselves: resilience. Resilience isn’t about bouncing back to who we were before, but about learning to adapt, grow, and redefine our lives in the face of profound loss. It’s about acknowledging the pain, yet still choosing to move forward with hope and courage. It’s a testament to our inner strength and the love that remains in our hearts. Flexibility plays a crucial role in this journey. Life after loss doesn’t always go according to plan, and sometimes our expectations need to be adjusted. Embracing flexibility allows us to navigate the unexpected twists and turns with grace. It helps us to accept that healing isn’t linear, and that it’s okay to have days where we feel strong and days where we don’t. Together, let’s continue to cultivate resilience and embrace the flexibility that our new lives require. Let’s lean on each other, share our stories, and remind ourselves that even in the face of great loss, we have the power to rise, to heal, and to find joy again. Find out more of our many programs, services and resources in our bio links to support resilience building in #widowhood. https://lnkd.in/eGAEPvkX *Quote by MWC Founder, Carolyn Moor #hope #heal #grow #modernwidowsclub #resilience #womenshealth #flexibility #keepgoing

Diversity and Belonging Are More Than Just Words to Us At Modern Widows Club, we recognize the diverse populations within our organization and the communities we serve, and we strive for equitable access to services and support for all people. We value and appreciate our differences and embrace them as a source of strength for our organization. We are committed to diversity and inclusion in every aspect of the work we do, and to creating an environment where every person feels valued, respected, and empowered. We ask all team, and volunteers to take part in our "MWC Cultural Competency Self-Assessment Tool" provided in their HR manuals. We recognize that systemic discrimination, inequities, and barriers have historically affected individuals and communities based on race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, religious belief, and many other factors. Though we have more work to do to advance diversity and inclusion, we are committed to dismantling these structures. We recognize that inclusion is about more than just representation. It means creating a culture of belonging where everyone can be their full, authentic selves and feel valued for their unique experiences, perspectives, and voices. To achieve our commitment to diversity and belonging, we: + Foster an inclusive culture where every person is respected, heard, and valued. + Promote diversity by actively seeking out and including a range of perspectives and experiences. + Prioritize equity by identifying and addressing systemic barriers to ensure that all people have equal opportunity and access. + Promote understanding and awareness of diversity, inclusion, and belonging to our Board of Directors, HQ Team, Community Advocates, committee members, volunteers, and collaborators. + Hold ourselves accountable for our progress towards achieving our diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging goals. #DEI #Statement #ModernWidowsClub #Nonprofit #Widowhood #Inclusion #Diversity #Equality #Goals #culture #tool #assessment #belonging #support #womenshealth #healthequity #mentalhealth

2024 Virtual Widow Empowerment Event on Saturday, September 28th welcomes Speaker Joanne Cacciatore, PhD, Professor at Arizona State University, a Senior Sustainability Scholar, and Director of the Graduate Certificate in Trauma and Bereavement Program sharing the intersection of #grief and impact of support from #animals. Title: "Good Grief Support: Sit & Stay, Like a Dog!" Register for WEE event $59pp: https://lnkd.in/gQug33it "Through many decades of science, social support has emerged as an important factor for helping #grievers cope with loss, and strong support has been shown to enhance wellbeing and health in a variety of populations. Conversely, low levels of social support and loneliness are social determinants of poor health outcomes and can adversely affect physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Social support is especially important following the death of a much-beloved one. Yet, we know little about the actors and actions of good clinical and community support in bereavement. Indeed, the ways in which grieving individuals interpret and define social support is not well understood, and little is known about specific behaviors that are perceived as helpful. While some in society seek to abbreviate and label bereavement-related distress, many clinicians and scholars have pushed for alternative paths to developing effective approaches for supporting grievers. This presentation redirects the focus on what grievers say they want and need to feel supported – a sense of connection to a caring social system - and #animals play a key role in fulfilling this for #mourners. Dr. Jo will present the results of a #study that employed mixed methods and content analysis to assess bereaved individuals’ satisfaction with social support in the context of traumatic #grief, using four categories of social support as a framework. Findings suggest that emotional support is the most desired type of support following traumatic loss, and that animals are significantly more effective at providing that support. Specific strategies will be defined and implications for practice discussed. Finally, an alternative, community-based model will be proposed that focuses on the restorative ethics of sustainability and #compassion for those suffering life’s most painful losses." Hosted by Modern Widows Club, we welcome you to join this empowering webinar series for #widows and those hoping to support a #widow better. Question: What is the “social expectation” of a #widow? (I googled it) “When a woman’s value is contingent on having a spouse, #widowhood can force women out of familial and social structures, leaving them particularly vulnerable to #poverty, #isolation, and #violence. These challenges may be compounded by struggles that widows face on account of other intersecting identities: as Black and Indigenous women, members of LGBTQI+ communities, women affected by conflict, women with disabilities, women of young and older ages, women living in poverty or rural areas, and other marginalized identities.” THIS topic will be included in our virtual 2024 Widow Empowerment Event - Saturday | Sept. 28 11-5pm ET. Widow educational webinars are vital to raise awareness and the voices of these beautiful women. https://lnkd.in/eRRmDy9 #widowadvocate #WEE2024 #poverty #widowhood
