Meet our Director of Operations, Captain A. Chehab, who has a special #safety message for all #Crew Members working with Marcap or anywhere else worldwide.
Safety is our top priority, and there are no compromises. While work can be delayed, lives and injuries are irreversible and life-changing for individuals and their families. These incidents must be prevented at all costs.
In this Safety Message, Captain Abdallah Chehab emphasizes:
- Stop Work Authority
- Complacent Mindset
- Situational Awareness
Marcap President & CEO, Samer Qiblawi, added a heartfelt message as an introduction to the Video:
"Dear #Seafarers, we remind you every day that we care deeply about your well-being. However, you are the ones responsible for your own safety on board and the safety of your colleagues. While we are committed to providing a good work environment, it is crucial that you take good care of yourselves."
Stay safe and vigilant, and let's work together to ensure a safe and productive #maritime environment. 🚢🌟

In my 23 years at Moran Shipping Agencies, one of the most common questions I get is “What’s your relationship with Moran Towing Corporation?” The answer is: we share a first name and like them alot! They’re a great company that we’re pleased work closely with.
The below video highlights not only why we like them so much but also the critical role #HarborTugs fill for vessel traffic safety in the world of #ShipsAndShipping.
On the evening of March 27th, thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the crews of the Lizzy B. Moran and the Sommer S, a certain disaster was avoided in the New Orleans harbor when they were able to divert the Anglo Marie Louise (840' long with 50' of draft) which had lost power southbound from colliding with Nashville Avenue. This certainly had the potential to be catastrophic to the container shipping industry in South Louisiana. But thanks to the brave efforts of the crews of the Lizzy and the Sommer, catastrophe was avoided. This goes to highlight the dangers our mariners can face at any given time on the hazardous waters of the lower Mississippi River and is certainly a nod to the excellent training and preparedness of our fleet crews. If the vessel name Anglo Marie Louise is familiar, it was very nearly involved in an incident at Convent Marine Terminal the evening of March 26th, when Bisso tugs were able to prevent the MV Thunderbird which had also lost power downbound from striking the Anglo Marie Louise at its berth in Convent Marine Terminal. Another excellent job by our well trained and dedicated mariners! Moran Towing Corporation
The MV Dali striking the Francis Scott Key Bridge may be just the tip of the iceberg.
As if to emphasise the scale of the issue facing the marine industry, the post below notes, not one, but two vessels which suffered power/propulsion failure while navigating the Mississippi in the space of as many days - both incidents within the last two weeks -
There is a clear need to review the provision of comprehensive Failure Mode and Effect Analysis - maintenance procedures - operating procedures in enclosed waters - escort tugs.

During today's Lone Star Harbor Safety Committee managing board meeting, Alberto Hernandez II, director of the USCG VTS, highlighted that Vessel Notifications to VTS have increased in 2023. This increase is attributed to the heightened awareness of OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) SIRE 2.0 requirements, with its focus on the Human Element and Risk-based approach being the primary drivers. This is an excellent early indicator that the objective of the SIRE 2.0 change is working.
