Hollywood has a way with animation films that strike the right balance between entertainment and life lessons. And Disney coupled with Pixar is a match made in heaven! What gems they have given us - Inside Out being the most amazing one. A brilliant film that personified emotions and took us into a tween girl's headspace, it won the Oscar for best animation film that year. Now the sequel comes with a lot of viewer expectations riding on it. Part 2 doesn't disappoint, but doesn't fascinate either. Diving into Riley's head just as she crosses 13, one would have expected more of a complexed story. Instead, the film focuses on the ice-hockey tournament that Riley is preparing for, and the introduction of new emotions, notably anxiety. Anxiety hogs a lot of space, both in terms of screen space and the way it messes up Riley. True, it does control a large part of a teenager's life, but so do confusion, angst, bewilderment and changing priorities. Wish the film talked more about a teenager's sense of uncertainty about self, coupled with a desire to fit in. (It touches upon it.) Still, not a bad start! Must-watch roller coaster of a film! Quality stands the test of time. Look at Disney films from 80 to 90 years ago. They’re still some of the best animation in history. People love that style. It’s hand drawn and has personality. Exaggerated and unrealistic to make it funny. Every sound effect adds depth to the scene. Animation shows the story - it doesn’t need constant dialogue. Then you look at some of today’s trash. People will forget a 1 year old film exists because it failed to live through its launch. Weak story. Lame characters. Good animation but soulless direction. So focus on quality at all times to leave an impact in your industry.

I find it incredibly frustrating how people still label #animation as a genre. It’s a technique used to make movies. A format. An art form. A perfect example of said labelling is the following statement: —— There’s simply nothing to see. If you aren’t interested in superhero movies or animated films, then your only choice is movies with minuscule budgets, often depressing even when they’re exceptional. —— It’s framing animation as a genre, and therefore limiting in what it has to offer… From #WaltzWithBashir and #TheWindRises to #AngryBirds and #TheSeaBeast - and most recently #BlueEyeSamurai - every single animated title I’ve had the pleasure of working on is completely unique. The full article can be found here [https://lnkd.in/e4nZ58EA] and is actually about the rumoured #WarnerDiscovery #Paramount merger talks, but regardless of this, I think we all need to show #Animated movies more respect.

How do you make a rooster kick? That was the question I had to ask myself each time I animated one of the dancing animal characters from Mary Poppins Returns. I had a lot of fun with this guy especially the tail feathers. This is a digital re-creation in ToonBoom Harmony based off my original work. I always wanted to go back in and make them full cycles which they weren't in the movie. #handdrawnanimation #2danimation #traditionalanimation #disneyanimation #MaryPoppinsReturns

Author of 'The Multiple Myth' a book about business valuations. Currently building an Entertainment Group. Script Writer, Executive Producer, Song Writer, buyer of profitable businesses.
Thanks Phillip Covell for the weekly share. Reading these numbers makes me think of accounting and Dealmaking for the actors and writers. If we look at a breakdown of studio releases over the past 10 years and analyse what films turned a profit, you will not be surprised to see a very low number. Is this magical accounting or are the studios really awful at running their businesses? Talent therefore who strike a deal where they share points on the upside of net profit/EBIT are either ill advised or plain dumb! What is your take on this? In the world of Hollywood budgets attracting talent is easy. In the world of independent filmmaking not so much. The independent filmmaker faces challenges every day; 1) sourcing a good script 2) finding the budget 3) attracting a producer 4) attracting a director 5) attracting talent to the project The list goes on. My vision is to creat a filmmaking group where we can operate under one company ethos, but run independently. The mini list above is therefore a less arduous challenge as the parent company can provide assistance. Interested to hear your take on Hollywood accounting and the struggle of independent filmmaking.

Today I came across a beautiful animation short film on "Rumors". In our day to day life we also term it as gossip, the grapevine, hearsay, tittle tattle etc. This being known form of communication which is widely been used in various scenarios, as it's known for its fast and quick reach. Generally being type casted as falling in negative segment. This form of communication has the potential to make a "mountain out of a mole hill" Two things to be mindful of while using this: 1. intention with which it's been spread 2. check the facts before spreading #rumors #communication #grapevine #toolsofcommunication Short film "The Balloon" Directed by Mr B.R. Shengde (1985) https://lnkd.in/dJSxhKPj

For all the fans of Liu Cixin's Three-Body Problem TV series, here's some exciting news! Someone has already made the sequel 'Dark Forest' as a CGI film! It's been posted on China's Youtube equivalent, Bilibili, since June 23rd and is blowing up. . . Even more crazy is that it was entirely self-produced by an amateur animator without any external investment. Read more here and see the film at https://lnkd.in/guqrfZDk #Threebodyproblem #LiuCixin #scifi #DarkForest
