When someone walks in and they are in a bad head space it’s a rippling and crippling effect for those in proximity. When you complain, when you talk about constant problems sans solutions at work it brings company moral down! Its spreads its tentacles to everyone around. Are you simply "being" or are you fully present with all your senses and sensibilities? Is it enough to just show up every day or do we need to show up with purpose? These are the questions that have been on my mind lately. In my opinion, it's not about being there "for" others, but rather being there "with" others. I like to think of it as the difference between throwing a towel at someone who stands there naked and shivering, versus holding the person and wrapping the towel around them. Grace is one of those words that invokes a sentiment of beauty, awe, sweetness, comfort, thoughtfulness, and deep knowing. In its simplest form, acting with grace requires us to consider our intent and approach and desired outcomes. It’s something we practice for it to become a pattern in how we approach our work relationships. What if just for today, we approached all work situations with grace? I suspect the stress might dissipate while the pleasure becomes more apparent. Actually, I am certain it will. Acting with grace in the workplace can look like: - giving people the time they need to think. - speaking softly and leaving room for others to contribute to the dialogue. - smiling from a place of love and remembering that we all come from source. - recognizing that we all have full lives with many ups and downs so we exhibit compassion with every interaction and remind ourselves to do this all day long. - identifying what we admire about every person who comes our way and focusing on that. Maybe even telling them. - taking a proper lunch break and giving ourselves time to recoup during the day. - hydrating the body so that it can perform properly. - saying thank you and meaning it. - reminding ourselves that being soft with others is a strength that builds us all. - delivering feedback with love, care and compassion. We can act with grace today and everyday. We may need simple reminders but we can absolutely do this. Let’s try it!
