What brings us together? There are more than enough reasons to spend a day or two with brothers. Whatever your reasons are, we offer you the perfect opportunity: The Firemakers Support Weekends. Gathering round a fire, experiencing brotherhood, testing your strength, working on a great estate, supporting a great cause, sharing, eating together, making music, dancing, and more… This is what awaits you when you join. The coming months we will be preparing the estate of InnEssence for the coming European Festival of Brotherhood 11.There are a lot of different things to be done, from chopping wood to repairing leaks, from mowing the lawn to setting up a sweat lodge, from interior decorating to taking out the trash. For us this is a practice of creating a safe space for all those men who are coming to the festival. What will it be for you? InnEssence itself will be very grateful to receive your support. In exchange for your support we will provide you with a bed to sleep in, decent meals and a clear structure in which you can thrive and feel freedom to commit to what you want to do. (given the concept that it is a work-weekend, of course) You are free to join for the entire weekend, or for just a day. You are free to join every weekend or just one. Do you feel you have plenty of energy but nowhere to put it? Or no welcoming, safe space to put it in? Do you long for a weekend away from it all? Filled with brotherhood, connection, effort? Do you want to experience the journey towards the festival in a more intense way? You are very welcome, brother. So practical: We offer a free men’s weekend (board, lodging, activity) in exchange for your labour (6 hours a day). Terrific night last night at Co-op Live with my lovely daughter and the still fabulous Take That. But this isn't about Take That... This is about how, after such a shaky start, beset with delays, operational disasters and a PR nightmare, Co-op Live absolutely delivered last night on the thing that matters most, the experience. From understanding the local area - the venue is signed from miles away, to direct those on foot, and counts you down to the venue. To their ways of working with TfGM (a significant logistical partner in running these events) - with free tram travel with every ticket to reduce traffic and pollution, special event timetables and loads of extra TfGM staff to get thousands of people moving in and out efficiently. (Manchester always excels at this). To the little touches. Seats with cup holders, for those inclined to have a glass of wine and wave their arms. Recyclable cups that you can hold between your knees that dont collapse! And rows and rows of ladies' loos! Hurrah! An app that is simply designed and directs you to your, brilliantly signed, entrance and seat. Most unusually these days, they are over staffed. Not understaffed. Helpful people, everywhere. Really visible in their bright Co-op colours, directing, advising, smiling! Doing the things the tech can't do, as opposed to the things the app can do brilliantly. What I experienced then was a great concert, in excellent company, that was hassle free and well managed. But what I'll remember is how the little moments of delight made me feel. It's easy to over estimate how much people care about a product or service. Customers expect them to work and be useful. What brands underestimate at their peril is how to make that journey delightful, - be that well thought out, small moments in the journey or strategic partnerships that really work. Concerts are great. But that concert was great, and effortless, fun and slick. I can't wait to go back. Which I'm doing next week actually....!

Leave well enough alone. I work with several festival committees. One of them has a couple volunteers that have been in charge of selling tickets since before I was born. Every year, we can count on them to volunteer to do ticket sales. They own this part of the process. It works. They have obviously iterated on the process over the years, and it is not an active hindrance to anyone else. It is not the most efficient nor intuitive process. But implementing a new system would potentially mean losing them as volunteers, and needing to retrain new people on a new process - a whole new headache for the committee, which would be time taken away from tasks that actually need our attention. So every year we let them sell tickets their way. Because it works well enough - so we leave it alone. And they come back every year because they own this part of the festival. They feel valued, that they have expertise and a want to apply that skill.The committee is happy to have reliable volunteers. The volunteers are happy to take pride in their work. Everyone wins.Leadership is about knowing where the value of your time is and letting people own their space and adopt their own solutions - even if it's not peak efficiency. That's how you build trust and loyalty. Footnote: it is also key we are aware of this as a potential issue - we have a 'bus factor' of 2 - should something happen, the committee is ready to setup a new process. We simply recognize that we dont need to right now.

RESCHEDULED: After much discussion & consideration, the Blockade of Charleston Festival has been postponed to Saturday, June 15th due to severe weather concerns for this coming Saturday, May 18th. Most details will remain the same with a few minor changes to entertainment, vendors, food trucks, etc. We'll still have 7-8 hours of live music, 3-4 food trucks, kids activities and 40+ art and apparel vendors. We'll also have the Best Pirate Costume Contest at 5pm on the main stage (1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners). Blockade Fest is all ages, family friendly and kids 12 and under get in free. All previous ticket purchases will be honored for the new date, and full refunds available for those who cannot attend on the 15th. Partying is Serious Business! For the party goers this is a bit of a joke, but not for the promoters, and for the upcoming Carnival season across the Caribbean the time is short as Ash Wednesday falls on February 14th! For those getting into the scene, take in some solid advice. • Know your Audience - Research what they want, as opposed to what YOU want. Premium all inclusive or cooler fete? Pack the schedule with performers or concentrate on your DJ cast? Venue parking makes a difference? Ticket price is make or break? • Research your Date - How many other events are targeting your people? If you aren't already a top tier, golden ticket, in demand event... • Marketing Online & Offline - It is not enough to have slick imagery and a good concept, people go wher their friend group is going. Online presence has become important but it does not replace your offline efforts to secure groups and influential individuals. • Secure ALL Suppliers - You may be too late if you haven't done this. the short season means suppliers are booked for multiple events, every day. Bar, music, decor, door management, stage management, clean up, security... • Prioritize Safety - Speaking of security, criminal elements are in operation year-round. Do not shirk on either your medical or muscle! • Negotiate Everythingggg - Ticket sales are not guaranteed as they once were, take "in front" and reduce costs where you can.
