Sign up today for our Annual State of Transportation event! Registration is open now at: https://lnkd.in/e2EGAuGH The Commonwealth of Virginia is making thoughtful and progressive steps to improve all modes of transportation with an emphasis on resilience, equity, and safety for all users, including cyclists and pedestrians. In addition, the volume of additional public funding and projects with the size of the current workforce contribute significant challenges for meeting the needs of the transportation industry in the Commonwealth. During this interactive panel discussion by Director Jennifer DeBruhl, AICP, PMP: Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, Commissioner Stephen Brich, PE: Virginia Department of Transportation, and Executive Director DJ Stadtler: Virginia Passenger Rail Authority, will discuss how they keep "Transporting Change" for all modes of transportation throughout the Commonwealth. Our distinguished speakers will offer insights on operating and maintaining Virginia’s highways, rail, bus, and pedestrian improvement needs, maintaining the system, workforce growth and development, and how they are planning to implement projects in order to transport Virginia's transportation systems into the future.

Transportation plays an essential role in your community. It connects you to the places you need to go and the people you need to see. By getting involved in the transportation decision making process through public meetings, you can play an essential role in your community. You don't have to stand on the sidelines and watch transportation grow and change. You can help define your community's transportation needs and share ideas about what may or may not best serve the community as a whole. At SDDOT public meetings, you can ask important questions and share vital information based on your experience using the transportation system. When your voice is part of the process, you can improve your access to transportation and opportunities. The graphic below (as provided by the United States Department of Transportation) outlines when and how to get involved in the process at the local, state, and federal level. My article, "All aboard? An analysis of public opinion regarding high-speed rail," was recently published in Wiley's Social Science Quarterly. This research uses data from the The University of Texas at Dallas's COMETrends Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 surveys to analyze public interest in high-speed rail (of the sort currently under development by Texas Central) and determine the characteristics that may influence a willingness to consider high-speed rail. Many thanks to my co-author Dr. Euel Elliott for his assistance with this project! #highspeedrail #transportationpolicy #utdallas https://lnkd.in/gUi5yXpy

The rising demand for updated transportation systems creates pressure on city officials to balance benefits for various stakeholders. Our goals were to: ⚖️ Reveal and Define fairness metrics; 📐 Assess design-tradeoffs; 💰 Evaluate funding mechanisms; 📑 Confirm policy constraints. In order to achieve this, we supported graduate research at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) to create an upfront evaluation framework ensuring improved fairness in public transit decisions and funding. The South Carolina Department of Transportation is looking for public input on the future of transportation in South Carolina through a multimodal transportation survey. Momentum 2050 is the statewide plan for the future of South Carolina’s transportation network. Every five years SCDOT updates the plan for the future of the state’s multimodal transportation network. The document is a statewide plan for all users, all modes and any area that has a role in South Carolina’s transportation system. It evaluates the status of the transportation system, what’s changing, and how we’re going to move forward over the next twenty-five years. This plan does not choose specific projects or decide what will be built where, but it develops the vision and goals for the future of transportation in South Carolina.
