Very interesting analysis and I think all these challenges are known. The issue is to bring decision makers and all the forest stakeholders to be concious on the different values of the forest. Definitely training of foresters in the next decades should be more multidisciplinary in order to mitigate conflicts with other land uses that cannot be avoided.

Future foresters will play a crucial role in managing and conserving forest resources in the face of various environmental and societal challenges

Excited to share that I conducted another guest lecture for M.Sc. students in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. I focused on questionnaire surveys, particularly online surveys, and data analysis in operational research. I am a trained user of @RISK Monte Carlo Simulation under Aman Bajaj and Associate Professor Dr. David Baccarini of Curtin University, Perth. I applied this software to one of our infield drilling projects a few years ago in my current oil and gas organization. This software could elevate your risk management from qualitative to quantitative risk. In our previous DRILLING projects, I found the benefits of its application were: 1. High accuracy in Estimated Project Cost (after compared to the actual cost at project completion) 2. Determined the Contingency budget in a systematic manner rather than individual risk appetite-influenced contingency budget (eliminate padded cost estimation-which usually too high due to risk-averse) 3. The risk that has the highest impact on influencing overall cost 4. Build confidence in our JV and Regulator (NOC), and lead to a fast budget approval due to systematic cost model and simulation processes. (Avoid ambiguous estimation). The keys to optimizing the benefit of @RISK are: 1. Build the most reliable Risk Cost Model with the most reliable inputs 2. A reliable person to interpret the result If your company wants to enhance its risk management, you may need to consider risk management computer software, such as @RISK

What will forests look like in 2050, and how are we preparing the foresters of the future? At #iufro2024, Cora van Oosten, Director of Capacity Development and Education at CIFOR-ICRAF, shared key challenges that forestry practitioners & professionals will face, including other competing land uses and climate change. 🎓 To tackle these issues, foresters need more than just technical knowledge. "They will need to be conflict resolvers, communicators, negotiators, and social learners," highlighted Dr. Van Oosten, who presented the Restoration Education curriculum at the IUFRO - International Union of Forest Research Organizations - SPDC booth. As much as forests are important, it is high time to venture into other Evergreening practices such as agroforestry, FMNR, soil and water management practices, pasture management etc. They jointly help in addressing climate change issues in our globe. #resaf #worldvision #icraf
