Today’s Tuesday Tip of the Week post honors superintendents and all they do to keep the staff and students safe and schools running effectively and efficiently. As many of you may know, Janine's husband, Robert Anderson, is the superintendent of Gowanda School District. There are days, even months to celebrate principals, teachers, school board members, teacher aides, administrative secretaries, etc. However, there is not a day to celebrate the superintendent of a school district, so she has chosen the month of August to celebrate all the superintendents of our school districts. It is a tough and often thankless job, but without superintendents, our schools would not function in the capacities they do. Many are unaware of their duties, so for this month of celebrating superintendents, Janine would like to highlight a few of their responsibilities: • Managing day-to day operations: Overseeing the schools and other educational, social, and recreational activities. Supervises district and building administration. • Enforcing rules and laws: Ensuring that all provisions of law and rules and regulations are followed. • Improving student achievement: Acting as leaders who strive to improve student achievement through curriculum and instruction. • Advocating: Fulfilling the role of advocate, confidant, and expert that their district and students need. • Communicating: Acting as a liaison between the public educational community and other agencies, and as a link between the Commissioner and local district officials. Send a thank you note to your school district’s superintendent as the new school year begins. You may be the first person to acknowledge them and show appreciation. We are sure it would make their day! #janineandersonsaccountingsolutions #CelebratingSuccess #Superintendents

Louisiana is raising the bar for academic success, enhancing the value of career education, and making it easier for the public to understand how schools are performing. Our revised accountability system expects all students to grow academically year-over year, achieve proficiency on key content, and thrive beyond high school. It starts with the 2025-26 school year. https://ow.ly/WiJW50Shfy4

Nearly all members of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) — 96 percent — consider the spread of false information a problem for school districts, but there are strategies LEAs can employ to build trust in their communities. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gpRpkni6 “As school communications professionals, we are no strangers to the challenge of responding to misinformation and rumors. But today’s landscape is unprecedented, with false information impacting school districts to an alarming degree,” wrote NSPRA Executive Director Barbara M. Hunter. “The growing problem of false information is draining not just staff time but also our school districts’ relationships with their stakeholders. To fulfill their mission of educating students, school districts must have a trusting relationship with parents/caregivers, school employees and the broader community. When false information breaks down that trust, it doesn’t just harm schools: It hurts students, too.”

I spent 9 hours a day for the past 7 days deep inside the Kansas City Convention center, reading and grading AP US History exams. Hundreds of them. I’m on the development committee that helps the College Board build the exam, so surely only fair that I see how students respond. Some notes: *The vast majority of the 1000 or so in-person readers are themselves APUSH teachers. They’re great. I myself benefitted from excellent high school history teachers, so it’s great to see that our kids remain in good hands. *The ratio of history joke t-shirts to humans inside that convention center was…extremely high. *Lots of standout exams from outstanding students. Way more sophisticated than I was at 17…or 22…or 30, in some cases. *There are a lot of safeguards against bad or inconsistent or otherwise unfair grading. It’s impressive. If you’re a historian, consider becoming an AP reader. It’s an endurance test for sure, but a great way to chip in for the good of the discipline.
