Pilates Instructor and Personal Trainer helping over worked, over stressed business owners to Feel Fit and Look Fabulous through one to one and group sessions online and in my private gym/studio.
Pilates for relaxation Pilates is a non-impact form of exercise that can be performed at home, at the gym, at a local class, in a group, with a personal trainer and on your own. To help with relaxation Pilates can be excellent. In my studio with live one-to-one clients, I have low lighting and scented candles, if they are happy with this, and a warm cosy studio. Pilates itself is suitable for relaxing as the moves are performed with our breath, we move with our breath either in or out. Pilates is a slow-moving exercise, as there is so much to think about there is not room left in our heads for anything else. We have time to focus on us, how we feel, where we can feel the muscles working and how they are feeling, are both sides feeling the same, is one side easier to do than the other? These are all things we think about during a session. Pilates is usually performed on the floor, with our body weight completely supported, we just need to think about what we are moving and how. One of the principles of Pilates, of which there are 8 is concentration, thinking about how we perform each exercise and how it makes us feel helps to focus our attention on ourselves. This alone can be very relaxing as we slow down and unwind from the busy day. Pilates can help with sleep quality too, if we perform it during the evening, we will be so much more relaxed. I love Pilates because it helps me to keep a strong core and improve my flexibility. How and when do you prefer to take part in Pilates and what is your driver? Is Pilates beneficial for men? Originally known as ‘Contrology,’ Joseph Pilates created a system of movements designed to bring the body into balance. If you’re not quite sold on what Pilates looks like today, have a read of the feature to understand a little more about what it offers at its core. (Pun intended). https://lnkd.in/e3ktX4q2

Pilates is a wonderful approach to exercise and does a particularly great job at building flexibility and mobility. However, it's not a replacement for strength training as many would like to believe. There is certainly some overlap between the benefits of each, but there are key differences. While Pilates CAN build some strength, it offers a very low ceiling in that regard. To build strength beyond a certain point, you'll need strength training. Pilates doesn't offer strength training's benefits in terms of bone density due to the lack of heavy, axial loading to trigger osteoblast activity. Additionally, if muscle-building is something you're interested in, you won't get there with Pilates -- aside from a small, initial bump for the very deconditioned. Muscle-building isn't just for aesthetics, either. Muscle hypertrophy, as it's officially called, is associated with better weight-management, faster metabolism, increased insulin sensitivity, faster healing, better sleep, and more. That said, there's no reason you can't have your cake and eat it too. A comprehensive fitness regimen can include both! #strengthtraining #pilates
