Each food items in a typical U.S. meal has traveled an average of 1,500 miles....If every U.S. citizen ate just one meal a week (any meal) composed of locally and organically raised meats and produce we would reduce our country's oil consumption by over 1.1 million barrels of oil every week. Do you know where your food comes from? The farmers in our community provide the crops, fruits, and vegetables that make up our produce section. Farms and ranches small and large are the backbones of our economy. And they need your support! Depending on how we spend them, our food dollars can either go to support a food industry devoted to quantity and convenience and “value” or they can nourish a food chain organized around values—values like quality and health.
