Do people want to be in your energy? I know this may sound a bit woo woo … Especially for LinkedIn. But it has its place in the world of work. Here’s why: A) if your energy is negative, people don’t want to be around you. B) if your energy is positive, people want to be around you. If you’re in the A category, do you think you’ll accelerate your career? Probably not. So, if you’re someone who is looked over.. You need to look at the energy you bring to work. Here’s how: -Ask 3-5 safe, honest, colleagues how they think you make people feel -Tune in: observe others’ responses to you on meetings, in emails etc. -Pay attention to your language - do you use words like difficult, challenging, hard? -Take an inventory on yourself - do you joke about how horrible work is? Do you frown more than smile at work? It’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s a start. People want to be around people who make them feel good. If you’re who makes people feel bad, you’ll have a hard time accelerating your career! What else gets in the way of career growth? ♻️repost if you know someone could use this message!

Want a Climate Job? 👉 3 points of simple advice. (distilled from 276 career convos). 1️⃣ Fall in love with the process. Not a single job description. Or a company that’s currently “hot”. The people who make the career transition into climate look “easy”… Constantly look at their “top of funnel”. They share their learnings and transferable skills. And have people reach out to them to talk more. 2️⃣ Stop “low value” Networking calls So many climate professionals are willing to talk and open their doors. Don’t waste that opportunity. Before each call: → Understand their current industry challenges → Make assumptions of what’s hard for them → Build own thesis around your learnings → Apply your skills to their challenges → Offer an “outside-in” viewpoint This will take a few hours to prepare. But it’s so worth it. And much better than the alternative: You asking the same question like the prior 20 people 😴 3️⃣ Seek Boring. Don’t chase trendy. Don’t directly go for the most popular climate sub sector. Lots of competition and noise. Side-step everyone. Go find the company that buys the services/product of every “trendy company”. Work “as the customer” for 1 or 2 years. Learn everything you can. Understand how valuable your skills are for those trendy companies. Then make the switch. Simple example: Work for a public utility, understand energy market regulations, pricing of energy, etc. Any VPP, DER, Microgrid company will want that experience.
