My internship took an unexpected turn when… A few years back, during my internship days at Leo Burnett in client services, my manager tasked me with reviewing a presentation template. They asked me to check for errors and improve it. The template itself seemed a bit dated, so I went beyond basic proofreading and started revamping the design, including changing the color scheme.  Confident in my work, I submitted the revised presentation. Days passed without feedback, and I finally reached out to my manager for their thoughts.  It was then that I learned that completely changing the template theme wasn't the intention. This experience highlighted the importance of clear communication. While I aimed to improve the presentation, a lack of specific direction led to additional work on both ends.  The key takeaway:  Always clarify expectations, especially when working on a new task or project. #Communication #MyStory #Internship

Great opportunity to #intern with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) #communications team at a crucial time for public service media in #europe. Public service media (PSM) is broadcasting made, financed and controlled by the public, for the public. The EBU represents PSMs (including RTE) in 56 countries. Collectively they reach over 1 billion people, broadcasting in more than 160 languages. Is PSM perfect? Nope ... but it's the best model we have, and when it's well-funded (and well run) it correlates with higher degrees of press freedom, lower levels of extremism and better control of corruption. It's worth protecting, particularly right now when AI technology (in the wrong hands) is fanning the flames of disinformation. Not all internship supervisors are equally good, not all internships are well designed, and working remotely makes it harder - but: I have counseled many young adults through this challenge. A few thoughts for students: if possible, ask to come in to the office for important meetings or when your supervisor is in the office - shadowing him/her will be valuable; early on ask other early career professionals in the same organization or industry what they read every day to be smarter about trends in the field - or better yet, ask your supervisor if there are industry studies, list serves or events that they follow/subscribe to that they want to read/watch/attend and subscribe to those and read/watch/attend them. If you see something interesting send your supervisor a short email “I saw this on X and found the concept of Y really relevant to our work on Z. Am I thinking about that correctly?” Chance are they don’t have time to read/watch/attend everything they’d like to and you may have an opportunity to select and summarize the ones you find most relevant. You will learn a ton regardless. Those of us who employ college students should use the many resources available to design high impact experiences.

If still you wonder why I write books about internships, all you need to do is read this well written and insightful article in The Boston Globe titled: These Summer Interns Were Ghosted By Their Bosses. Of all the things going on in the world today that lack integrity, you would think that at least a college student would be treated with DIGNITY when they spend a summer interning. That is clearly not the case! Hence the need for a book series that brings dignity to internships. It is all simple stuff. You just have to really care. I will give you one tip. The article says interns finish their work and have nothing to do all day. SOLUTION: Well before the intern shows up, identify numerous projects the intern can work on and give them all to the intern at once at the very beginning. Then, trust they will prioritize and manage their time like they do with their various college classes. They are great multi-taskers. Monitor progress periodically and have more projects ready - that you thought through before they started - to give them. No ghosting necessary. Gaining Ground: My First Internship Journey. Setting out on my most memorable internship position venture at a content creation and production company was an encounter loaded up with learning, development, and opportunities . From the very first moment, I was introduced in the unique universe of content creation. I had the valuable chance to work close by gifted experts who were enthusiastic about storytelling and content creation. Whether it was brainstorming imaginative ideas, composing contents or research, each assignment added to how I might interpret and engaged with creating content. As an intern, I was given various different responsibilities that permitted me to acquire significant experiences into the production aspect . From assisting on set with prop arrangement and lighting to managing the artists. This time I learned the importance of team work for a smooth production flow. One of interesting parts of my internship was the different experiences I gained across various aspects of content creation and production. Whether I was altering recordings, attending meetings, or taking part in client gatherings, each assignment furnished me with down to earth abilities and information that I could apply in genuine situations. All through my internship position, I had the honour of working together with industry professionals and experts. Participating in these projects improved my communication abilities as well as exposed me into different perspectives within the industry. While my internship was loaded up with exciting and interesting experience, it additionally introduced its reasonable portion of difficulties. Whether it was adjusting to tight cutoff times, technical issues while shooting , or exploring input and modifications, every obstacle filled in as a chance for personal development and professional growth. Through persistence and assurance, I figured out how to embrace difficulties for learning and improvement. My first internship in a content creation and production company was an extraordinary journey that gave me important experiences, abilities, and bits of knowledge into the unique universe of media and entertainment .From learning everything of production to teaming up with industry experts, each second was a venturing stone towards my development and improvement in the industry.
