Launch of IUK’s Resource-efficient or Bio-based Materials and Manufacturing Competition The aim of this Innovate UK (IUK) competition is to help the UK become a destination of choice for advanced low carbon manufacturing. By funding feasibility projects, the competition aims to realise these three strategic imperatives for UK materials and manufacturing: • Net zero and resource efficient. • Resilient and responsive. • Technologically advanced and digital. IUK encourages simultaneous demonstrations on how the sectors will be more resilient or technologically advanced. Projects must relate to one or both of the following themes: • Theme 1: Resource efficient materials and manufacturing. • Theme 2: Sustainable bio-based materials and biomanufacturing. Up to £1 million has been allocated to fund innovation projects in this competition. Each project’s total costs must be between £50,000 and £100,000. This competition is open to collaborations only. To lead a project, or collaborate with the lead, an organisation must be a UK registered business of any size, micro, small or medium-sized enterprise (SME), academic institution, research and technology organisation (RTO), charity, not for profit or public sector organisation. Applicants must be or involve at least one grant claiming micro, small or medium-sized enterprise. Applications are accepted between 2 April 2024 and 29 May 2024 (11:00).
