: The Cold Noses Foundation is dedicated to preventing animal suffering and improving the bond between humans and animals. The Foundation provides funding for programs targeting domestic pets, wildlife, and farm animals relating to the humane treatment of animals, finding homes and non-lethal alternatives to euthanasia, providing veterinary care for needy families or organizations, and supporting humane education. Eligible applicants include organizations that are enhancing the lives of homeless and neglected animals that have an income of $200,000 or less in the last fiscal year. U.S organizations must be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Non-U.S. organizations may be 501(c)(3) equivalent, which will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Patient Release: Raccoons We are starting to release some of the MANY Raccoons that have been admitted to our Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital this summer! All of these Raccoons came to us as orphaned babies, whether something happened to their mothers or humans forced the loss of their mother by displacement. We receive many calls starting in spring about babies left behind because their mothers were removed from the area. While trapping and removing is not an ideal situation at any time of year, it is even more problematic during the season when babies are born. Please consider calling our Wildlife Hospital for humane exclusion techniques before trapping any Raccoons. These techniques will allow the mother to move her babies to a new location and keep families together! As you can see, these Raccoons are very curious about their new home! They are released as a litter but will eventually become independent of each other. Raccoons are very curious animals and love to explore their environment. This can lead to negative human interactions when they are found rifling through trash cans or dumpsters, hence their nickname, trash pandas! To live harmoniously with Raccoons, please keep your trash cans secured and patch up any holes into your home. This will ensure that they are not attracted to your home and won’t have the ability to get into your attic to make a nest for their babies. Every year, more than a billon animals are killed for their flesh and skin. While most people associate leather with cows, the reality is that many different animals are killed to make leather. Leather is made from the skin of animals – once an animal’s skin is removed, it must be preserved through a process called ‘tanning’, which uses strong chemicals to prevent the skin from decomposing. A wide variety of animal species are killed to make leather — most notably cattle, but also pigs, goats, sheep, crocodiles, snakes, sting rays, seals, rabbits, emus, deer, fish, kangaroos, horses, cats and dogs.
