Skilled Nursing Facilities (#SNFs) are critical to the care continuum. While many individuals would prefer to be at home, social, financial, and clinical realities often make the SNF the best option for the individual and family. However, as this article highlights, these facilities must have clinical leadership actively involved in the operation of the business and not simply a rubber stamp for clinical care. As noted, "nursing home chain chief medical officers [must] be empowered to fully support efforts to provide quality care to residents. Nursing homes must engage and support experts in geriatrics and long-term care medicine to achieve clinical and financial success." As SNFs seek to regain public support and their footing in a post-pandemic era, let's ensure that the clinician has a crucial role in SNF operations. #patientchoice #familycaregiving #geriatrics American Geriatrics Society @ Skilled Nursing News LeadingAge PointClickCare AMDA - The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine

Chief Nursing Officer | Transforming Patient Care & Leading Clinical Excellence | Strategic Healthcare Leadership | Solutions Targeting Root Causes of Burnout and Turnover
Nurse turnover isn’t just a staffing challenge—it’s a direct driver of patient outcomes and hospital performance. In my latest blog post, part two in a series on the root causes of nurse turnover, I explore how incivility in nursing is contributing to burnout, turnover, and extended patient stays. Did you know hospitals with higher turnover rates see up to 7% higher patient mortality and 6.1% higher 30-day readmission rates? These numbers demonstrate the far-reaching effects of an unhealthy work environment on both patient care and outcomes. In this post, I delve into: How workplace incivility leads to nurse dissatisfaction and burnout. The direct impact of incivility on patient length of stay (LOS) and adverse events. Strategies nurse leaders can implement to foster a culture of civility and inclusivity, improving both nurse retention and patient safety. As part of this series, we’re breaking down the key contributors to turnover, including workload imbalances, lack of career development, and leadership failures, with actionable strategies to address each one. Join the conversation and learn more about data-driven approaches that transform nurse retention and improve patient outcomes.
