Bringing peace of mind through better health to our customers and communities

About us

As Tennessee's largest health plan, we've been helping Tennesseans find their own unique paths to good health for more than 70 years. More than that, we're your neighbors and friends – fellow Tennesseans with deep roots of caring tradition, a focused approach to physical, financial and community good health for today, and a bright outlook for an even healthier tomorrow. Our mission is simple: peace of mind through better health. We're an independent, not-for-profit, locally governed health plan company – meaning we live and work alongside our Tennessee business customers and plan members. Our 6,000 employees across the state have built our strong reputation for integrity, excellent service and community leadership. But we are also part of the BlueCross BlueShield Association, a nationwide association of health care plans. Because of this, our plan members have access to the same quality health benefits while traveling or living out of state that they have while in Tennessee. © 2018 BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Inc., an Independent Licensee of the BlueCross BlueShield Association.

Updates

  • “My sisters and I have always reminded each other to get our mammograms,” says Jackie Doss, a BlueCross Network Manager. Throughout her life, she’s gotten those screenings on schedule. In 2017, Jackie noticed some discomfort under her arm and was diagnosed with breast cancer that had also spread to her lymph nodes. She had surgery and underwent chemotherapy and radiation to treat it. “What I’ve gone through will always be a part of me, but whatever comes my way, God will see me through,” she says. “Our bodies carry us through life. We need to listen to them and get the screenings that protect them.” #WeAreBCBST

  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. BlueCross Specialty Products Account Manager Melita Daugherty shares how trusting her instincts led to her diagnosis in 2017. After she felt a lump during a self-exam, she called her doctor. “I didn’t want to wait until my next mammogram,” she says. Melita underwent chemotherapy, surgery and radiation, and now she reminds friends and coworkers to get regular breast cancer screenings. “I tell people I plan to grow old so my kids will have to take care of me the way I took care of them.” #WeAreBCBST

  • BlueCross is continuing to celebrate our commitment to quality care by highlighting employee Leigh Sanders. Leigh works as a Commercial Clinical Consultant at BlueCross on the Commercial Quality Improvement team, which conducts training for health care providers related to preventive screenings and chronic condition care best practices. Leigh helps develop training materials for providers and internal staff, as well as educational materials for BlueCross members. She also attends wellness events where she meets these members face to face. “I’m proud we offered a partnership with providers that includes easy-to-understand information that can help our members as they make decisions for themselves and their families,” Leigh said. #WeAreBCBST

  • This week, BlueCross is celebrating our commitment to quality care by highlighting employees who contribute to that mission. Amanda Middleton works as a Medical Informatics Business Analytics Manager at BlueCross. She leads a team of data analysts who support and give direction on projects from cancer screenings and vaccine initiatives to pharmacy management, care coordination and more. Her goal is always to provide data and analysis that is actionable and helps us provide proactive care options for our members. “When something like a wellness exam or cancer screening can help someone have better health, that makes all the difference. I get satisfaction from knowing that my job directly impacts the quality of care that my neighbors and I receive,” Amanda said. #WeAreBCBST
