Where Do You Find Silence? What if there are only a few things we need to do in order to be serene? A few things we need to know? And what if all of those things are all about us on the inside? As we become more aware, we realize this is indeed true. That’s why Step 1 of the ‘7 Steps to Be A Loving Mirror’ is Be The Peace You Wish to See in the World It’s in you, that peace. Not out there. And all you have to do is Be It. Where can it be found you ask? Between thoughts, between worries. In the vision of a flower, the smell of a garden. What Defines the Loving Path? The Loving Path is not enabling — but it is very peaceful. In other words, it doesn’t yell. It doesn’t beg. It doesn’t threaten. The Loving Path is about factually describing their words and actions to them in a calm way, a way that shows your love, empathy and non-judgment. Imagine a shield of denial surrounding every person who’s struggling with some addictive behavior. The Loving Path allows your words and your feelings to bypass that denial, to go under the shield and to reach their heart from your heart. If you take the Loving Path, you can be an alternative — another life choice. What Lies Along the Journey to our Destination? Everything in the BALM leads us to this one idea: That joy, peace, and love can be found all along the journey to our destination. If you are new to this perspective, you may be wondering how I could even say that! “After all,” you may say, ” My loved one is struggling, my home is in chaos, I cry myself to sleep each night and I THOUGHT the BALM would be an answer to my prayer of how to get my loved one sober. How can you even imply that I could find peace and joy in my current situation?” The paradox of family recovery is, my friends, that NOW is the only place joy and peace can be found. Now, amidst the DUI’s, lies, stolen funds, confusion and fights. Now, amidst the uncertainty and the fear. So, how could that be? It could be because, peace, joy, and happiness are states of being, not emotions. https://bit.ly/471gKgb #BALMFamilyRecovery #BALM #familyrecovery #recovering #soberlife #recoveryjourney #twelvesteps #substanceabuse #sobriety #recovery #recoveryispossible #alcohol #drug #fentanyl #addictionawareness #family #families #lovedone #substanceuse #addiction #hope #love #connection #12Principles #7StepstoBALM #BethePeace #BeALovingMirror #BeverlyBuncher #alanon

What Shapes the Journey of Recovery? We can’t afford to wait for our loved ones to hit rock bottom. Hitting the bottom means death. This is about wise love. Love that doesn’t mean enabling. Love that doesn’t mean giving them what they want or giving into manipulation. We teach families a whole new way to look at their lives, and at its core is love. But the recovery is about, in my opinion, living from a place of peace and love. It’s about shifting internally so that peace and love are your default. It’s a spiritual way of life so that the way in which you speak to your loved one isn’t tragic — it’s choosing not to use that verbiage or that perspective. It’s matter-of-fact, and it’s loving. We can see our loved ones as spiritual beings who are having a difficult physical experience. They are still a human being worthy of your respect and your time, so treat them that way. Treat yourself that way, treat other people that way, and you will live a full and rich life regardless of your loved one’s choices From BALM: The Loving Path to Family Recovery by Beverly Buncher, pp. 45-46. www.balmfamilyrecovery.com #BALMFamilyRecovery #BALM #familyrecovery #recovering #soberlife #recoveryjourney #twelvesteps #substanceabuse #sobriety #recovery #recoveryispossible #alcohol #drug #fentanyl #addictionawareness #family #families #lovedone #substanceuse #addiction #hope #love #connection #12Principles #7StepstoBALM #BethePeace #BeALovingMirror #BeverlyBuncher #alanon

A Dual Process to Family Recovery Being there for a loved one in a way that helps them stay in recovery is similar to what it takes to help them initially get recovery and, as usual, it all starts with being there for yourself. To help another person have the best chance of sustaining their recovery, your BALM® recovery must be strong. In some ways, it is easier to Be A Loving Mirror once there is recovery in the home, because the person you are BALMing to has a growing presence of mind rather than a deteriorating one. One of the joys of family life in recovery is when our loved one begins to BALM to us!
