Would you agree as an employer in today's marketplace that you now must prioritize flexibility to keep your talent you have or want to hire? Nearly three-quarters of people younger than age 45 feel flexible gig work eventually could replace full-time employment as the predominant work model in the US, according to results of a recent survey. Traditional employers should take this as a sign of the importance of flexibility to today's workers, and companies and organizations should assess work-life balance and staff scheduling to achieve greater flexibility, researchers said. #workplace #management #hiring #staffing #retention

40% of companies are returning to the office 5 days per week. I wonder if those same companies are complaining about the candidate market? Some people work best in the office full-time. Others don't, or are unable to. Personally, I'd let individual staff decide and avoid putting barriers in the way of potential talent joining the team. What are your thoughts? (Stat reported by People Management magazine following a survey completed by Virgin Media ) #recruitment #hr #workfromhome #wfh #flexibleworking #hybridworking

Interesting trend emerging for employees when considering a new job (and employers on their talent strategy) - higher pay and office based or lower pay and hybrid / remote? Personally, I value a strong culture and collaboration which tends to necessitate some office time but I also value diversity and equity that tends to comes with more location flexibility as well as reducing carbon footprint from unnecessary travel.

According to a recent analysis by Canadian HR Reporter, the topic of side hustles during company hours is becoming increasingly relevant for Canadian employers. With over half of companies discovering side gigs interfering with work time, concerns about productivity, focus, and engagement are on the rise. Notably, 51% of companies have observed such activities, and the responses vary—while verbal warnings and requests to restrict side gig activities to personal time are common approaches, only a minority resort to severe measures like termination or demotion. Intriguingly, only 29% of hiring managers have updated their policies to directly address this issue during work hours. The rationale behind side hustles is primarily financial, reflecting a broader economic trend. Moreover, significant portions of Canadian workers are involved in e-commerce or gig work, echoing a shift towards diversified income streams. This underlines a pivotal challenge: how can employers effectively balance the needs of their business with the evolving economic realities their employees face? It seems imperative for companies to develop clear, supportive policies that recognize the multi-income landscape while safeguarding corporate productivity and focus. As HR professionals, how can we foster a culture that recognizes and accommodates these shifting dynamics without compromising the core objectives of our organizations? I invite you to share your thoughts and experiences on developing strategic, supportive workplace policies.
