While this seems funny at first glance, the sad reality is that this does happen from time to time within the zoo industry, particularly in places where the management of a zoo or safari park is overseen by people with poor to no management skills. These zoos or safari parks will often employed staff with little to no experience because they are cheaper than experienced staff or because they are friends or relatives of those doing the employing. If we in the zoo industry wish to continue moving ahead and be taken seriously as a professional industry, then all should shun this type of behavior. Hiring inexperienced staff to care for the collection or to oversee the daily management of the park because they are a cheaper alternative to the more experienced professionals within our industry in an attempt to save a few dollars, is often the mistake made by poor managers and is a sure fire recipe for disaster. The saying "you get what you pay for" is definitely true in the case of your park. If the staff caring for the collection, guiding, or management only consider their position as just a job and have no passion for what they do, then how can anyone except them to do their job to a high level and to have any loyalty to your zoo or safari park. timhusband2005@gmail.com

"This individual has been working at Garret's Mom's house for the past couple weeks. They were working on a trench and Garret's Mom had to cross the trench to get to her car. There were lots of tools throughout her path. This individual cleared all of the tools, went and grabbed her hand, and helped her over the trench so she safely made it to her car. So for caring for others, David Bernal!" Manager Erik F. We have monthly safety meetings here at GRO. When most people think of a construction company, it’s likely that pictures of dozers or loaders first come to mind. While we have several team members working on project sites to ensure success, we also have many others working behind the scenes to provide day-to-day support. On #AdministrativeProfessionalsDay, join us in applauding their crucial (and often behind-the-scenes) contributions, which are essential to our operations! #AdministrativeProfessionals #PavingtheWay #ValuesinAction

Back in my home town of Bridport , yesterday was Haterday! We come together to celebrate….wearing hats (it’s as simple as that). I wasn’t around to be able to take part this year. With the unpredictable weather we had I think I would have gone with a selection , to be one the safe side. What hat do you wear the most and why? Mine is my wool hat, hides a bad hear day , keeps me cosy and no one else at home wants to borrow it… #hats#manyhats#hr#humanrrsources#disc#familyrunbusiness#hrsupport#hrhelp

I frequently post about what makes working for the City of Prairie Village great. Here's another example: Public Works Department Assistant Superintendent Ryan King could delegate scraping ice off sidewalks to any number of subordinates. But (and this is no surprise) he doesn't even think twice about picking up a shovel and clearing them himself. If your immediate supervisor doesn't lead like Ryan, maybe you should look at some of the job openings at www.pvkansas.com/jobs. It's not just Public Works -- every department here has leaders like Ryan. #prairievillage

So, I’ve been the Interim Chief of Staff to the Executive Director of the Port for the last 10.5 months. Which is a job I don’t want. But YOU should totally apply!! Now, you may be saying to yourself, “Eric, if it’s such a great job, then why don’t you want the permanent gig?” To which I would say “Mind your own beeswax.” Which is a phrase that people use to avoid saying the word “business” which is weird because it’s not like trying to avoid cursing by saying “H-E-Double Hockey Sticks”. As a side note, I went to a costume New Year’s party one year at Consolidated Works (of blessed memory) dressed as H-E-Double Hockey Sticks, with two hockey sticks in my hands, which was funny but challenging for alcohol consumption. My general theory is that people use “beeswax” because they’re worried that if they say “mind your own business” then people will start singing “It’s Business Time” by Flight of the Conchords, which was amusing the first thousand times but now I could do without. Not to be confused with the very strange “It’s Time for Business” video that the Seattle Chamber made, full of cameos from such luminaries as Governor Christine Gregoire: https://lnkd.in/g2tYKGBp. Not to be confused with Courtney Gregoire, who was a Port Commissioner, and so we’ve come full circle! Wait, where was I? Oh yes, the Port is a great place to work, Executive Director Metruck is a great guy to Chief of Staff for, and you get to engage in all sorts of amazing organizational, management, and policy issues/decisions/projects/initiatives. And, while we don’t make beeswax at the Port (although we probably move beeswax cargo through our aviation and maritime gateway), we do raise bees on the airfield and partner with a local nonprofit to jar and sell the honey! So, we’ve got that going for us, which is good. https://lnkd.in/gzm2Atps
