I have worked for more than 10 years for the healthcare industry and always wondered why people were hating pharma so much ? This is probably the industry that has saved the most number of lives. It is said that one out of two child beeing born nowadays will live more than 100 years old. This is definetly due to #medical #innovation as a whole. This is also very true that the #patient must be at the center of all things but they have never been considered by the pharmaceutical industry. They cure disease, they do not treat patient, which is the paradigm that needs to change. Of course this is easy to understand as pharma companies are BtoPtoPtoP companies, especially in Europe. Business to Payers to Practionners to Patients. Patient is at the far end of their value chain. You always ear in pharma : "We cannot talk to patient". It is such a burden for them to close the gap between business and patient. All other indsutries are allowed to talk to their customers. To improve Pharma / Patient relationship we should definetly start by openning the conversations and work together on the common goal that both are sharing : "Living better lives" ! After caucusing directly with Prof. Emmanuelle Charpentier 2020 Chemistry Nobel Laureate (received with Prof. Jennifer Doudna), we hosted Dr Rodger Novak for a Master Class on CRISPR Technology, in 2021, at the 5th Boston Biotechnology Summit. Last week, medical therapeutics took a historic leap ahead following approval by the UK MHRA: Medicines & Healthcare Products Agency of CRISPR technology for Sickle Cell and Beta-Thalassemia. This one-time treatment, is administered IV. Developed by the VERTEX Pharmaceuticals Boston, MA, and CRISPR Therapeutics, Boston MA & Zug, Switzerland. The trial for sickle-cell disease has followed 29/45 participants long enough to draw interim results. Treatment completely relieved 28 of those people of debilitating episodes of pain. Congratulations and hats off to my former company VERTEX for demonstrating once again their capability to deliver cutting edge science & technology.
