We recently celebrated our “Best of Belk” winners with an event in our hometown of Charlotte, NC. The outstanding associates, as well as our leadership team, gathered together to honor the accomplishments they achieved last year. As part of the event, attendees worked on a community giveback project to help two of our local Project Hometown charities, Read Charlotte and Classroom Central. Project Hometown is a commitment to making our hometown of Charlotte stronger by partnering with local organizations that work to improve our community. Read Charlotte is a community initiative that unites educators, community partners, and families to improve children’s reading from birth to third grade. As a capacity-building intermediary, the organization supports local partners to apply evidence-based knowledge about effective reading instruction and interventions, high-quality execution, continuous improvement, and data analysis to improve reading outcomes. At Classroom Central, they believe every child deserves a level educational playing field, because when teachers and students have the resources they need, every class becomes world-class. They empower teachers and students in 248 schools across six Charlotte-area school districts, providing supplies and resources through their Free Store, Mobile Free Store, and other community-supported programs. Our “Best of Belk” attendees assembled over 700 kits to donate to Classroom Central on behalf of Read Charlotte. The donation included art kits, pencil pouch kits, and homework kits, all of which included much-needed school supplies, including a note of encouragement for the recipients. Thank you to all our attendees for showing how integral our communities are in our culture at Belk. #belk #belkgives #community #projecthometown

3+ decades in engineering & solutions leadership, working with global teams and technical alliances world-wide.
Tandem (Tandem, Partners in Early Learning, a fantastic organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area) works to give kids a great start to learning, focusing on children ages 0-5 (the sooner you can start learning, the better your life’s outcomes). Apparently, MacKenzie Scott endorses Tandem’s approach and execution: Scott’s philanthropic organization just granted $2 million to Tandem, a whopping grant. If you believe in children, if you believe in education, I encourage you to support Tandem with your money, or your time, or your re-posting of Savitha’s announcement below. Or, find an organization near you that focuses on children and figure out how to support them. Even one hour a year is helpful. Seriously. Go try it. (Way to go, Tandem!)
Tandem, Partners in Early Learning is extremely excited to share that we’ve received a $2 million gift from the Yield Giving Open Call! The #YieldGivingOpenCall – managed by Lever for Change – focused on elevating organizations working with people and in places experiencing the greatest need in the United States. Tandem does just that by building a society of supportive children's development by partnering with families and educators to co-create interactive learning experiences paired with books reflective of diverse cultures. This gift is a testament to our partnerships with families, educators, and community organizations, and would not be possible without your support. Can you please help Teachers' Treasures, Inc. by donating to this worthy cause today? Our big fundraiser Dream will be on February 29, 2024. Our big ask is the dessert dash where every table gets a dessert donated by a local bakery but the order the table gets to select their dessert is determined by how much money they raise. Please help the Rising Phoenix Leadership table raise money for Teachers' Treasures, Inc. No Donation is too small. See more about Teachers' Treasures, Inc. below the link. Here is the link: https://lnkd.in/gcdNerVM Every day at public, charter, and parochial schools located throughout Marion County, children of all ages attend class without the most basic supplies they need to get a good education. Dedicated teachers are often willing to pay for these much-needed supplies out of their own pockets to make sure the kids in their classrooms have the necessary tools to learn. On average, teachers spend $800-$1200 a year on school supplies for their students. Our Answer Teachers’ Treasures, in partnership with local businesses, charitable foundations, neighborhood organizations and individual contributors, helps fill this need by operating a volunteer-based “Store for Teachers.” Donated educational supplies and other materials are distributed via this unique conduit to teachers for the benefit of their students. We serve teachers from any school (public, private, charter, or parochial) in Marion County and the immediate surrounding school districts with 60% or more of the student population on the free or reduced lunch programs.

As back to school season is in full effect, many parents are busy preparing themselves and their children for the new school year. Educators are also busy preparing for the upcoming school year and some school districts will be fortunate enough to receive financial resources that help them equip its classrooms for new & returning students while others may struggle to make do with outdated resources for their classrooms. It comes as no surprise that Oklahoma ranks poorly amongst other states in the country in education ranking 44th overall in 2024. The Every Student Succeeds Act was signed in 2015 to address advancing equity to disadvantaged & high-need students, however, many school districts continue to miss out on opportunities to better serve its students due to political sentiments that fail to prioritize the next generation of leaders and thinkers. This year I decided to join some of my friends at Generation Why to help gather & distribute school supplies to some of the Oklahoma City Public Schools who were not as fortunate to receive state or federal funding to help provide its students the necessary resources they need for the upcoming school year. Last year #GNWY managed to raise over $12k to help students at F.D. Moon Middle School for the 2023-2024 school year. This year their goal is to raise $10k for more #OKCPS schools and also host another #FillTheBus drive to accept any donations from local businesses & organizations to help steer this mission. If you or your organization is interested in participating, feel free to reach out to my dear friend Jordan at #GNWY to help them acheive their goal for the upcoming school year. Any donations can be distributed to #GNWY before or on August 4th at their #FillTheBus event or online via their website. See details below. Please give a little and help me and my colleagues at Sage make a real difference to the kids at Tullygally Primary School! 🙏🏻 If you can, please donate. Every £ will get us a step closer to having a huge impact on their future. Giving them computer skills at an early age is like giving them a passport to the world! Over 92% of jobs need digital skills and computer literacy. The ability to understand and use technology is no longer an optional skill. It is already a fundamental necessity. For the younger generation, computers and digital technology are their natural environment. Computer literacy extends far beyond being able to surf the internet or play video games. It includes understanding the operation of a computer and even early programming skills. This breadth of knowledge opens possibilities for creativity, collaboration, and exploration. It’s like equipping children with a passport to the world. This is where educational computers for kids serve as a versatile tool. It helps shape their learning experiences. I’ve put together a list of all the ways the Charity I’m looking to start can help. It includes: -Instead of 3rd-6th, it could focus on all stages of childhood, through high school. We would partner with the scholarships available to provide additional funding in fields associated, to allow funding for those charities to go even further, doubling the good in the community. -I’d eventually look to bring industry professionals in to mentor, teach, speak, and advise. -I would look to have daycare-focusing on inner-city children means understanding mom and dad can’t afford childcare for the others. These daycares would focus on STEM to encourage development and interest at a young age. -I would look at partnering with the local school districts for after school care as well as potential in school teachings-like Trade Schools. -I would inquire into allowing a membership to allow additional enrollees. Every paid membership pays a membership for another child/family. -This would help encourage development in the industry in the Midwest, and could even set up partnerships/scholarships for college. -We could run a monthly publication, teaching kids how to write articles and build a brand about their writing, and give them experience. -Partnering with WTTW Games could get them into the industry right away.

For the month of July, our Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Albuquerque are hosting our 11th Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive to help children in need begin the school year with all of the tools they need for academic success. With so many uncertainties about how children will return to school and what the classroom will look like, they need your help more than ever. Families with children in K-12 spent a projected $519 per child on back-to-school needs last year. For families in low-income neighborhoods, the costs are simply not realistic. Donating new school supplies to children in disadvantaged communities will make an impact on their ability to begin the school year school-ready. Items we are collecting: -Pencils -Pens -Composition Books -Combination Locks -Scientific Calculators -5-Subject Notebooks -Tissues -Hand Sanitizer -Wet Wipes -Trapper Keepers -Colored Pencils -Markers -Protractors -Paint Sets -Glue Bottles -Notebook Paper -Highlighters -Scissors -Sharpeners -Pocket Folders To donate, simply comment below and we'll have a volunteer coordinate a donation pick up!! #TeamWhoIAm_Albuquerque
