Sustainability has many facets
Sustainable design transcends visual aesthetics and biophilia. While it’s important to acknowledge how design can impact the environment, it’s equally important to prioritize the impact spaces can have on the health and well-being of individuals and communities. Megan Valentine (Dougherty), Director of Sustainability at KTGY, notes sustainable design as more than just an industry buzzword. Moreso it’s a crucial move towards creating spaces that thrive and support life in every sense. A holistic approach to design can create enduring spaces and a foundation for a more viable future. #SustainableDesign #EnvironmentalImpact #ResponsibleDesign

"Design is not just about aesthetics; it's about creating spaces that support the mind and body, our planet and the future generations." In today's world, sustainability isn't an option—it's a necessity. As we craft interiors for homes and commercial spaces, the focus is on designs that captivates and rejuvenates. By choosing sustainable materials and considering environmentally considered practices, we're not only enhancing the beauty of the spaces we inhabit, but also contributing to a healthier planet. - Sustainable Materials: We meticulously select materials that consider our environmental impact, source locally and support local business. - Health & Wellness: Our designs prioritise well-being and understand the needs of all who use them, by performing site assessments and thorough research prior to initiation we are able to create designs that are born from evidence based insight. - Community Impact: Together, we are keen to support the local community and make a positive impact. We can build spaces that are as sustainable as they are stunning. Reach out to explore how we can help you transform your spaces into something beautiful and considered. #SustainableDesign #InteriorDesign #EcoFriendly #aivisualisation

Circular design is currently 15% more expensive than regular design. Why? We asked our creative strategist Yannic Alidarso for his view on this. Right now, the price difference is mainly due to the extra hours spent finding the right materials and calculating circular options. With the speed sustainable design is developing, it will quickly decrease when more parties become involved. But what if you want to design sustainably right now, but you have a smaller budget? Yannic shares his ideas: “I want nothing more than for circular design to be affordable for everyone. I see many young entrepreneurs with a (hospitality) business who prioritize local and sustainable products, but choose the opposite when designing their interior. While it is also possible to opt for a circular design with a smaller budget. For example, start by mapping your waste flows, there are many great initiatives that can help you reuse them.” Ultimately, circular thinking must become a part of everyone's system, in the office and privately. The more you think about it and work on it, the more fun it becomes to think about creative reuse. #SustainableDesign #Circularity #Innovative #HospitalityDesign #InteriorDesign

It’s inspiring to work with and see companies in Australia embrace sustainability practices and thinking into business. Check out Cultivated, for example, who brings new life to furniture design classics. By repairing and reusing, it drives a circular economy that creates jobs and celebrates craftsmanship and masterpieces. #manufacturinginsights #productdesign #sustainability #circulareconomy
Debuting at this year's @greendesignshow at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre we presented a short video 'Design Eternal'. Design Eternal showcases how the repair and reuse movement, coupled with quality, thoughtful design, can be an antidote to the fast furniture industry that feeds landfill waste (we think over 200,000 tons a year). Crucial to the movement, and celebrated here, are the makers, workshops and artisans, who's skills and knowledge breathe new life into tired and worn products. By supporting Cultivated, you are not only promoting a sustainable circular economy, you also support 14 partner workshops around Australia, keeping local economies and skill in furniture making alive. #circulareconomy #circulardesign #interiordesign #productdesign #sustainability #furniture
